I know that there is a lot of information in this forum, but I have a specific question that I would really appreciate some easy suggestions for.
I have a Sony video Hi8 (CCD-TRV 318) camcorder that I want to be able to connect to my new dell notebook which has a dvd burner to be able to put my family movies on dvd. The camcorder has S-video out, A/V out and RFU DC out and the dell has usb ports.
I have been doing a little research and have come across the dazzle dv bridge and several other similar converters, but I am really new at this and would like to get it right before I purchase anything. Any help with product reviews and or alternative connecting/converting would be welcome.

Your going to need some sort of capture device. This is the exact model I purchased some years ago. http://catalog.belkin.com/IWCatProductPage.process?Product_Id=105106
There are now much better products available, but it was a start.

Here'a an AD link to Avi to DVd conversions.

There are so many ways to capture and convert, try this link, and browse around the guides etc, you'll be pleasantly surprised also.
