I'm trying to figure out how i can ftp to my xbox from pretty much anywhere. My biggest problem is finding my online IP address...NOT the 192.168.x.xxx address that i already have. i'm not looking to do a LAN connection. One of these reasons for me wanting to do this is so i can share things with a buddy of mine who lives in a different state. plus i would like to be able to load my box with all the programs i need and just log straight into it anywhere i go. any ideas? (mind you i do not have the usb adapter for plugging in a keyboard or mouse). thanks. ALSO! if you happen to know, what is the best way to get my data from my 80gb drive onto my 250? other than using a second xbox as that is not an option currently. i read there was an awesome cloning app that you can put on the xbox but i can't seem to find that site or app now. thanks. google with "find your ip", f.i. http://www.lawrencegoetz.com/programs/ipinfo/ above will show your internet ip address! you can use chimp (program name) to clone your 80 gig to your 250 drive. the program is run from your xbox. you can also backup your 80 gig hd back to your computer, but you have to have enough free space off course.
What you are trying to is, a remote access setup. You would need to have an established server. A server where you can receive incoming and outgoing traffic from the internet like an FTP website. There's not much you can do, if you don't have something similar to what I have just mentioned, you can't create that type of operation.
