Here's a top-of-the-line, DVD/ CD, DL, 16X Burner capable of burning not only the disc itself BUT using a LightScrire DVD disc, it can burn the label as well. The current price is $60.00 which for this unit is unbeatable. I LOVE mine. http://www.meritline.com/benq-dw1625-lightscribe-16x-dual-layer-dvd-burner-oem.html Ask around, best on the market Pete
I saw the link to the page you sent. Of course, I loved it. Are there any hidden junk I need to know? I'm very, very new at this and have no idea what I'm buying...well, just afraid. I got taken on some expensive software getting started and that is still sticking with me. Dog-gone-people! No refund!! Anyway, of course I don't understand anything, but expect to after a while. This product is a external isn't it? All I can use in my computer is external. I have no space for a internal. What are the steps in burning? I mean, there is the burner, the media, and then what is the next step? I need to know the steps, because everything is confusing right now!! Hang is there, I know I'll have alot of questions. Man, I though I had Nero and that did it. Boy, was I ever wrong. Have a great day!!! The ligetscrire is the best DVD burner plus other things that it does. Man, there was so much listed it was overwhelming. I know I sound paranoid, I just haven't done it before and the only way to put it for me, beside scared is "overwhelming."
Hi tshensley, You didn't mention anything about an external drive. Let that be a lesson. When you post a question in the future, include EVERYTHING related to the question that you're asking. In this case, there's no harm done. Back you go to Mertline to purchase an external DVD / Hard Drive box. It's all pre-wired and so all you have to do is, 1. Put your drive into the box, 2. Connect the wires (there's only one way for them to be connected ) and, with your trusted screw driver, 3. Screw it all back together. 4. The power wire goes into the wall socket, 5. The other cable goes into your PC's USB port. 6. Turn your PC on and follow the instructions to complete the installation. As for what to do next, go to the guides in my sig., lQQk for the guide that says Shrink and Decrypter. It has all the FREE programs you'll need to download into your system. IMPORTANT: Print out and follow the directions for doing a backup and, in no time, you'll have the proggys downloaded, setup to work with each other, hand in hand while your PC sets there, happily chugging away, turning out your perfect DVD Backup. Remember, next time, include ALL your formation regarding your question when you post so that we can foresee all issues and give you all the answers you'll need to make it all come out well. I like these cases myself: $34.99 with a $3.00 off coupon 1. This Meritline is also fine for $26.99 with a $3.00 off coupon Meritline USB 2.0 External Enclosure 3.5"/ 5.25" for DVD-RW/CD-RW Drives and HDD, with Power Supply http://www.meritline.com/usb-external-enclosure-5-25-cd-dvd-drive-hdd.html Actually I have both of the above cases BUT all you need is box with the same dimensions and the case's specs. You can spend as much as $79.99 at Office Max OR as little as something under $20.00. I liked the 2 I linked too because they are a quality product (and the Galaxy has neat lights around it that lQQk sharp as nails in a dark room. D) Even at my age, there's a "little Kid" still running around in that empty space between my ears. Let us know how you make out, alright ? We'll be awaiting your report on your first backup ~ Best of luck, Pete
I really like my benq DW1620 too pete even though it's not lightscribe. Still an awsome drive. Benq seems to be leading the pack. Best bang for the buck. Even plextor sells a drive that is a rebadged benq. The new sony is a benq too. Their not finicky about media, booktype +r media to dvd-rom ready, and you can dl qsuite off the web for free. Mort
@Mort, You sure are right about the best bang for the buck ~ I just don't know how they can do it for $60.00 per drive. I remember when I bought my Pioneer 107, that was $139.00, I was delighted when I got my next one (Pioneer 109) for $129.99 and this burns rings around the Pioneers PLUS I can change the Book-type with the BenQ and cannot with the Pioneer's. The LightScribe is just some beautiful frosting on the top of the cake D) (I do LOVE that frosting, Lol) Pete
I need a external DVD. My computer will not take a internal. Is the LightScrire DVD burner a external? I've had trouble opening the page of "LightSCrire." I hope they will have the LightScrire in an external DVD that is as good. I've never heard of "anythig" with a lower price being any good. I don't mean that in a bad way, I'm suprized and happy!!!! Thank you all!!!!
Is the product below the correct product that is a super DVD, the one that is the best buy for me? If this is the correct product, does anyone know where I can get a external box "cheap?" I say two DVD burners. Is this the burner that is talked about being the Best DVD burner? Will burn both + and - ? BenQ DW1620 Pro Double Layer 16X DVD ± R/RW Burner Internal Driver for PC, Black color, with Free DVD software Nero Suite Faster! 8x Media Over-Speed Burning at 12x or Higher Speed! $41.99
The benq DW1620 is an older model (like a year old) but still a very good drive. It is not lightscribe. The benq DW1625 is basically the same drive with lightscribe. The benq DW1640 is the latest model. Not lightscribe. These drives are all internal and you will still need an enclosure. ScubaPete listed a couple good choices.
The newer and older? Which one would be better? Is there that much difference in them? Is there something I can do without? Or, does the year make the difference in the product? Do you know of a cheap external box? I'm checking with Gateway right now to see if I have a empty slot. It sure looks like I do, but I'm waiting on them. I know one thing for sure, they will not help me with anything that is not theirs. I think there are pins and something behind the DVD that have to be set. Do you know anything about that? I've put in Cd's before and the pins had to be one way or another. Oh, well!!!! Thank you!!!!
What do you think about Nero. I bought a "new one" not out of the package. Really the package is still sealed. There are 2 disk. One is Nero OEM Suite, the other is Nero plugin and update CD Rom. What do I have? Is Nero good? I sure hope so. Boy, I bought Cloner II and have tried to return it. I'm goning trhough pure Hell, (forgive my French), trying to get a refund. They are still coming up with reasons why I should keep the software. I have my credit card company working on it. The company won't even send me a RA# to return it. I'd stear everyone away from Herman St. Software. Sorry, I had to vent.
They are all good drives. Just old model vs new model. Like a 2004 t-bird vs 2005 t-bird. Lightscribe is an option like a moonroof on your t-bird. Lightscribe is used only for labeling your discs, has nothing to do with the actual burning of the bottom side of the dvd and requires special media for labeling the top side. You can replace a cdrw drive, cd-rom drive, or dvd-rom drive if need be to make room for your dvdrw drive since the dvdrw drive will do everything that these other drives will do. Just make sure you set the jumper on back the same as the drive you take out. Nero is a very good burning utility. You will need nero 6 for dvd's. There was a late vs of nero 5 that would burn dvd's but I don't know what vs. You can buy nero 6 oem suite 3 for about $8.00 and it includes nero recode 2 (transcoding software). Nero 6 oem suite 1 & 2 don't include recode 2. Here's an example http://www.softwareandstuff.com/SWW12252.html
Here is a link to a benq DW1625 external drive http://www.meritline.com/light-scribe-external-usb-combo-drive-benq-1625.html Only $99. Very good price for external lightscribe dvdrw drive.
I just read the red Nero DVD and it didn't say exactly what it is. The Nero plug-in/update CD Rom says it is Nero 6. The Nero plug-in and update Cd ROM says "before installing any of these Nero 6 Reloaded Update Patches. Please install Nero OEM first. Then make sure that Nero is not in use. Before applying updates." Well, maybe I don't have Nero version 6?????? I was told by the seller that the version I was buying was version 6. Tell me if you know what kind of version you think I have. What else do I need? What do you think about the older and newer versions of Benq? I can do without the writing on the front. I can label the DVD's with a CD/DVD pen. What about the older version of DVD writer? Will it write good for me? Another thing is, I don't know how to set the pins. How can the burner be sold for such a low price, and still be super
When you install the nero cd-rom it should tell you what vs it is. BTW don't install the INCD packet writing software. I have the older benq DW1620 and have never had any problems with it. It has been nothing but excellent. They are hard to find now since the new model is the DW1640 and you can buy the 1640 for the same price or less than the 1620. They are both excellent drives so buy the one you can find for the least amount of money. One advantage I heard about the 1640 is that it comes set to burn dvd+r media to dvd-rom by default. You can look here too for good prices and service. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...rice=&MaxPrice=&SubCategory=5&Submit=Property Once again I say just be sure the jumper (pins) are set the same on the new drive as the drive you are taking out. You are making it out to be way to complicated. One of the most important things about writing dvd's is to always use good quality media and keep burn speeds to 4x and then you can try some 6x or 8x burns if playback on discs burned at 4x are ok. Poor quality media will cause problems regardless of what brand and model dvdrw drive you use.
The best media would be something like Verbatim or something? I have a DVD reader in my computer, and am getting a DVD external burner. I'm not going to replace one for another. I planned to use the internal reader to the external burner. Won't that work? So the Nero version I have it alright? What about the DVD + and DVD - ? Please explain, I don't understand them and how they are used. I'm new, but I'm going to get it, one of these days!!! You say NOT to load the Nero CD that came with the Nero program. The one I'm talking about it the one that says it has patches and plug-ins on it? Getting back to the pins. Now that I will have a external writer, what or how do I set the pins on it. (When I get it.) So, the older model and the newer model of Bunq, are okay and you would use either if you wanted not to burn the front? Boy, the + and - thing really throws me. And if or when I need a 5 or 9 DVD. Those things really give me a fit. I'm trying to understand, but I'm not do a very good job at it. I have the 3 downloads shrinks, decrypter and I though there is another. I'm not sure. I downloaded them and kept them in a folder. I haven't opened or loaded them yet. Thank you for your patience and help!!!!!
Good media is verbatum, taiyo yuden, sony mij, fuji mij (mij = made in japan), and maxell. Yes. Try a small package of both dvd+r and dvd-r quality media and see which performs best with your set top dvd player/s. The benq dvdrw is capable of bitsetting but we won't get into that now. Regardless of which nero cd-rom it is on don't install INCD packet writing software. You don't need to mess with the pins on an external drive. Plug in the usb cable and power cord. If windows doesn't recognize new hardware reboot. I would go with the external DW1640 I gave you the link to. You can normally get by with compressing your video down to a dvd5. Thats what dvd shrink is for. My patience is wearing thin so I'm taking a break for a bit.
You're welcome. Check back after you get your new external dvdrw drive if you have further questions or problems. Mort
