i got my XBOX modded by a person i dont know what kind of mod it is soft or hard? heres what i know my xbox plays backed up games when i start it up.. \ it shows the EVOX sign on the top-left i have a normal Microsoft xbox dashboard.. plz let me know so i can start making changes to my xbox like change the dashboard for starts
There's really going to need to be more information than that, like has the warranty sticker been broken, and was it already broken\removed?
ah.. i didnt understand what warranty sticker u were talking about so heres somemore info i can give u when i look at the bottom of the xbox... i can c 2 screws holes in the stickers the person who modded my xbox might have opened the xbox so my guess is that because he had to open the xbox it may be a hardmod.. what would u say?
again.. possibly.. still not enough evidence. It may have been opened to get at the hdd for a hotswap softmod or a tsop flash.. or just possibly to steal your samsung drive and swap it for a philips.. we aren't psychic. I suggest you open it up and look at a lot of modding guides. Good evidence for a chip is some added external switching arrangements.
So any reason you can't ask the person that did the job in any case it's not that hard to pull apart,so long as everything is noted or layed out in a pattern, putting back togeather don't force, all should fit easily apart from the covers that may need a small thump just to get it home those last 2mm,don't tighten all the screws one by one, make sure they're connected first then do them up being careful not to over-tighten use your fingers on the screwdriver shank not the handle should be enough more so if screws go into plastic.
there's no added external switch on the outside of my xbox which sorta indicates that its not hardmodded... but for me to double check.. i should open the xbox and check the motherboard if it has a chip or not right?
yes, you should look for a chip. if there isn't any, then it is a tsop flash. i also haven't got a switch build in, but if i want to boot from the chip i have to hold the power button for 2-3 seconds. if i only press it once, it boots up off the normal ms bios. another xbox i have, i did a tsop flash. in that case it will only boot of the non-stock bios. but to be certain, you have to open your xbox up and look under the dvd drive. if it is chipped, you will find a wired chip there. but does it matter if it is a chipped or tsop flashed xbox? i mean it runs unsigned code from boot on, that is all that is important...
ok thank you people... i now have figured out that my xbox is hardmodded ............. now heres the thing.. i have the standered M$ dashboard i want change my my dashboard so i can run all the stuff like: XBMC (watch movies) Emulators where do i go on from here now... plz help.. been trying to work this thing out for the last 2-3 days..
NO.. DO NOT RUN SLAYERS until you know exactly what mod it has.. Does it actually have a chip inside it? Some of the older chips and cheapmods run what appears to be a standard M$ dash but will boot backups... does your box boot backups? If not you need to flash a bios on the chip...before trying to install a dash. that's why it's important to know what is fitted. Guessing and just running a dash installer disk can cause all kinds of problems. This is where I would hotswap the hdd and have a look at it.
yes the xbox does have a chip inside.. and yes it does play backups.. so playing slayerdisk wouldnt be a problem?
my xbox is reading the slayer evox auto installer 2.7 now i have to know .. note: i just have the regular xbox harddrive should i just inst XBMC, Apps on (E) and Evox (c and set EVOX and my primary dashboard do i have to flash bios... if i do which one should i chose out of all the options i have a 1.6v xbox ... and the bios version on it right now is M8 plus_16 fan 40.60 thankz in advance..
do NOT!!!!!!! flash your bios!!! only flash your bios if you are 200% sure what you are doing! but keep the m8 bios, i also use it. it is a good one and the latest release! so DO NOT REFLASH YOUR BIOS if you have a stock drive (8 gig), just let it install the apps to the e drive. if i have to make a choice about the primary startup dashboard, i always prefer avalaunch. i always set avalaunch as primary start up dashboard and i alway run xbmc as an app (in the e drive in folder APPS). but the choice of start up dashboard is your choice. after rebuilding the harddrive using the slayer disc, you have to boot off the chip all the times. i do not think that you can (re)build a hard drive with the slayer disc, and then boot this hard drive off the original ms bios! you have to boot off the chip!!! (i'm quite sure about this, but not 100%) for this reason, if you have a modchip, i would recommend to use softmodded files anyways (c4rn1's posts and the hdm tutorial). then it doesn't matter whether you boot of the modchip or original ms bios, since both can boot softmodded harddrive. but again, maybe the original ms bios also boots a harddrive prepared with a slayer disc (maybe someone can answer this definitely? can a slayer prepared harddrive be booted from the original bios, or only from a non-original bios. ==> i only use a tsop flashed xbox so i do not know for sure). do you always get the evox sign in the topleft? if you have a chip in it, you have to hold the power button for 2 seconds (since it now boots from the chip). if you only press it once, you shouldn't get the evox sign (since it now doesn't boot from the chip, but boots of the onboard ms bios!!). so to boot a slayer prepared harddrive, you have to press the power button for 2 seconds! if you use softmod files, you can boot of either! btw. you claim to have a v1.6, so you have to have a chip in it. can't be a tsop flash....
thank you all guys.. i got everything working now... now all i need to do is connect my xbox to the internet... please tell me or point me to anyother thread that is discussing this topic ... thank u once again
do you use a router/switch? just connect your xbox with a regular utp cable to your router/switch on your xbox: just go to the setting of your dashboard (which dashboard did you use for primary??) and set it to dhcp. then save the settings (you might have to reset your xbox if you use evox!). then you are good to go. if you look at the general settings, you see an ip address. that is the ip address of your xbox (this might be different each time you power up your xbox). just use any ftp program to connect to that ip address (f.i. 192.168.1.1 password and username are both 'xbox').
i use a dell modem.. i already have 2 laptops running wireless in home is there anyway i can use a wireless connection for the xbox aswell i dont want to run the cable around the house
just look up the ftp tutorial, for all the details on how to ftp into your xbox using a utp cross/straight cable if you want the xbox to be wireless, just by a wireless access point. set it so that it connect to your wireless modem/router, and hook the wireless access point on to your xbox.
