Okay, I just ran out of Ridata 8X dvd-r's. They worked good but,

I'm looking to get something better. Alot of people on AD say that Verbatim & Taiyo's are good.

Which will play more on most standalone's and dvd roms ???

    -R or +R's.

Ridata 8X are excellent and staying with what works for you is a good idea. I use the Ridata as well as the Taiyo Yuden and Verbatim. All with excellent results.

It is more of a compatability issue for me. I use -R just because it seems to work in more of the players my disc end up in. Quality-wise there is no difference.

On the subject of the Taiyo Yuden discs, I am very new to this forum, however during my short time here have noticed that the Taiyo Yuden blank media seems to come with a very high recommendation from the majority of members.

I am passing on my recent experience purely for the information of all who care to read. Prior to joining this forum, I bought a spindle of 50 Taiyo Yuden DVD-R 4X (TYG01 I beleive is what you guys refer to them as). Since buying them, I have used 11 discs. Of those 11 discs, 4 have become coasters as they had faults within the dye layer (I assume that is what I could see that was causing the pixelation).

In fact two other messages I had posted on this site questioning the quality of Nero turned out to be faulty media (the TYG01 disc).

I am not going to recommend any other media in preference as it is probably just a bad batch. I do however feel it appropriate to pass on this experience.

I highly recommend the Taiya Yuden or Verbatim. I use the 16X-R and burn at 4 or 8x. No coasters. I have no problems viewing -Rs or +Rs on my dvd players, but I have heard of people having problems with +Rs. I do a clean boot prior to burning and I run no other applications while burning.

    Thanks for the article.........

I'll try a 10 pack of +R's and see how they work on my stadalones & dvd rom.
