    Hi,

I'm new to PS2 so I appologise if my questions sound too lame.

I bought modded Playstation 2 Slimline (SCPH-70004) yesterday, the problem is that the reseller doesn't know what mod chip is used. It plays both original PS2 games and backups fine (NTSC&PAL, also PS1 games as the seller claims) but I'm unable to playback legally bought Region 1 DVDs (not backups)! DVD player version is 1.30E.

I'm also able to boot from CD (tried PS2Reality Media Player).

Is there any way to learn what modchip do I have without opening the device? There are no modchip specific options in the configuration menu. I want to be able to access modchip configuration and see if there're options to have my legally bought DVDs played.

One more "symptom" is that I have to hold reset button for 3 seconds from standby to load the DVD and PS1 games (otherwise PS keeps saying i have to load valid Playstation disk)

    Any help is highly appreciated,
    foxius

Hold down triangle and circle as your ps2 turns on if a menu comes up then it should be of the matrix family but wouldnt recommend changing any settings because it might be a modbo and if you change the settings and save. It renders the modchip [bold]*Bung*[/bold]

Sorry that could be any lower rung chip. There's no way to know for sure what chip it is without opening it up or contacting the installer.

    Hi There,

Dont mean to hijack the thread from the OP, but does anyone know if theres like a guide that shows you how to open up a PS2? I would like to take a pic of the chip I have installed, so I can post it up here and see if anyone knows which chip it is, but I wouldnt know where to start in opening up the PS2.
