Hi there, i'm new to all this stuff - but i'm wondering about the shows i download in emule. they are about 174 mega for like 21 minutes. ther quality is amazing and its from a Tv and not a DVD rip. When ever I try to recod something - it looks like crap - catches like 450 Mega for 30 mintues. I use ATI All in one X600 wonder - and recording type is: MPEG-2, 640x480 NTSC, 6.00 M bit/second, 44,100 Khz, 16 bit Stereo It says that it captures the exact picture bla bla bla - but its not - it looks quite bad. I hope you can help.
Well forst off "Mpeg-2 at 640x480" is NOT DVD Compliant and Neither is 44.100HZ audio so the Files will have to be Re-encoded to put them on DVD which will Ruin any quality you had... DVD has to be at 720x480 or 352x480 with 48.000hz audio.... Those Files that you download off of e-mule Probably aren"t Mpeg-2 files and they Probably have a Much Lower resolution which is why the Files are so small... 720x480 DVD Compliant Mpeg-2 files will usually suck up about 30 to 40mb per minute of Video so a 2 hour Movie on DVD will Suck up at least 4gb...and if you use the 352x480 resolution you can use a Lower Bitrate so you can fit allmost twice as Much Video on a DVD useing this resolution.... Also your Capture device Just Might not be very good...ALL In Wonder Cards were never known for being the Best Quality Capture devices and they are way over Prices because You can get a super high Quality Capture device for about $250 Like the "Canopus ADVC-100"... Also what are you useing to Capture and author the Files to DVD???
i'm using the program comes with the ATi card- some TV Capturer, or what ever its called. Basicaly do I need ot have a better TV card to capture better quality or i need a better capturer program for recording TV cable programs? I can record it as DVD quality 720 , 48,000 - but it still looks same and the size its huge.
Well the File sizes are Correct for the Bitrate you are useing...Like I said before DVD Mpeg-2 files will suck up at least 30mb per minute of Video so that is 300mb per 10 minutes and that is Normal for DVD captures..... I believe your Card uses the ATI Theater 200 Chip which is One of the Better quality Decoder Chips on the Consumer Market as it is a 12 bit decoder were most other Cards use an 8 or 10 bit decoder so the Theater 200 Chip should Produce better quality than Most Consumer Cards.... You might try Different Capture software Like I personally Liked useing "InterVideo WinDVR" as if Captures Very good quality Mpeg-2 files and even supports Dolby AC3 audio which is the best Format for DVD.... But no matter what software you use it won"t have any effect on the Size of the Files when useing the same settings as the Size of the Mpeg-2 file is directly related to the Length of the Video file and the Bitrate you use to encode it so if you use the Same Bitrate as Before the Files will be the Same size as Before but Might be better quality because of better quality encodeing...If you use a Lower Bitrate you will also get Lower Quality unless you also Lower the Resolution at the Same Time which will also affect the Quality... These are the resolutions you can use to Make a NTSC DVD: 720x480-(2 hours per DVD at 4700kbs) DVD quality 704x480-(2 hours per DVD at 4700kbs) DVD quality 352x480-(4 Hours per DVD at 2150kbs) SVCD Quality 352x240-(6 Hours per DVD at 1325kbs) VCD/VHS Quality Cheers
