The most popular seem to be Nero CD/DVD Speed and DVDinfopro. CD/DVD speed is free, DVDinfopro is $30 or something. If you have a LiteOn burner, you can use Kprobe. If you have a Plextor burner, you can use Plextools Pro. There is a free version of DVDinfopro that expired in Jan 2005, but it may work if you are NOT using Windows XP. It worked for me for a while, but stopped all of a sudden. Now, I switched back to and older version. I can't find anywhere to check errors with cd/dvd speed, is there a way to check them with this program? What is a good or excellent range for errors? I dont know much ata ll about this part of burning. Thanks
There is a downloadable program called CDCheck, that also checks DVDs. It will report errors or unreadable sectors. http://www.elpros.si/CDCheck/ A less accurate way is to let DVD Shrink do an analysis of your completed burn. If major errors are present the anaysis will hang or report an error.

When you open cd/dvd speed, there will be a tab that says "Disc Quality". Click on it. Then insert the disc you want checked in your DVD Burner. Once it loads up, press start and that's it. If you have a Pioneer Drive, this will not work and you will need to find a different application. I use DVDinfopro. As for interpreting errors, I read that as long as PI errors are under 280 and PO errors are below 15 a disc should play fine, but depending on your player, this varies drastically. I have discs that average 15 PI and 8 PO errors that do not play on a couple of DVD Players. I usually average about 1 PI Error and 0 PO errors with Taiyo Yuden DVD+R media. Don't worry about testing too much. Just test one disc and see your results. It is reasonably safe to assume that all other discs will be of very similar quality if you hold the following constant: Your Burner, Burn Speed & Media. If your results are bad, then try lowering your burn speed or getting better media. Some burners are picky with media as are some DVD players. If you use Taiyo Yuden or Verbatim you will be fine though. Every time you change media brands you should test a disc to see how your burner likes it.
Hi there, Let's not forget VSO Inspector v1.1 It provides you all the info about your drive and media (Media ID etc.) It can also do a "sector by sector" scan, and a file read scan to make sure your burned media can be read 100% without errors !
