I'm new to the backup process, I bought a product called icopydvds2 and just used the dvd43 free ripper. I was not impressed with the product and just sent the icopydvds2 disc back. So now I want to find out what the best products are to get me set up. In reading the forums, it seems like 'AnyDVD' and 'CloneDVD2'are getting the best reviews. I just wanted to get opinions as to whether that is the best way to go to get up and running?? Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
dvd shrink and decrypter are great and free. cloner and anydvd are better but they'll cost $60(for both). too bad you didn't like intervideo for it is probably the best of the buch.
Thanks, I'm still trying to figure out the best way to go. I went to the review section of this site and it said that "Best Buy" GOLD - 1Click DVD Copy + CopyToDVD SE is the best out there. So now I'm really confused. I think I'll have to do a little more research and read some reviews. Thanks for the info.
The best without a doubt (under $2000) is DVD-RB/CCE but can be difficult setting up and operating for beginners. DVD-RB is free but CCE Basic costs $58 and uses the same encoding engine as it's $2000 parent CCE SP but only without all the bells and whistles. I recommend dowloading, useing, and mastering dvd decrypter and dvd shrink first. As stated by elizerroj they are both free and are still used by a lot of folk here. You will still need dvd decrypter and possibly anydvd to break the css encryptions (dvd decrypter is no longer being updated where anydvd is). My opinion isn't to far off what has been said, but I will say anyway. I like to use the dvd decrypter/dvd shrink combo, for my older movie backups, and the Anydvd/ Nero Recode combo for my newer. There are some great guides here on aD, for both! May I also suggest a great website by an aD Member. iam convinced that anydvd and CloneDVD2 are the way to go . and if you buy type in "afterdawn"and you can save 10 bucks on the combo .Also you can download both as a free trial before you buy. Intervideo DVDCopy3 is a great program with anydvd, BUT i have been having audio problems using it doing the movie only .it seems to want to play the directors comments on SOME standalone players .Because of this i have been using CloneDVD2 ,the re-authoring capabilties of the program makes it more user freindly than DVDCopy3

ther are many programs that you can you to backup dvds..1 click dvd and copy to dvd,clonedvd2 and any dvd, dvd shrink..all are good,but it depends on your pocket
It sounds like the members are saying that any dvd/clone combination is one of the best choices, but the after dawn reviewers rank it number 7: http://top-dvd-copy.software-reviewed.com/ So they are saying there are 6 other programs rated higher than those. It looks like "1 click dvd copy" and clone are roughly the same price, I'm just wondering why the reviewers rated clone so far down on the list, when the people I've been reading responses from can't say enough good about it. I just want to get the best one for the price. Any thoughts either way from anyone or experiences??
I had 1-ClickDVDCopy and ditched it. I also have Intervideo DVD Copy 3 (very few user options). [bold]AnyDVD and Nero Recode2[/bold] is an excellent combo and is my #1 choice!!! ANYDVD will cost you $29.95 and you can get Nero OEM Suite #3 for $8.00 (it includes Recode2 and BurningROM among other apps if you don't already have Nero). http://www.softwareandstuff.com/SWW12252.html I don't pay much attention to those rankings... You came to the right place. Actually, everything mentioned so far makes excellent backups down to around 75% (most I have compressed with Recode2 so far was 62% and the copy was great!!!). (CCE/RB being the best once you have mastered reauthoring and you use higher compressions- 60% and lower). I like Recode2 because #1- it produces excellent results; #2- Nero BurningROM is the burn engine choice of MANY (why not keep it in the fam); #3- Recode2 is developed by the author that created Shrink(which so many LOVE) and is like a new and improved Shrink; #4- Cost... There is also DVDFab Decrypter (which is free). I haven't ran across a movie yet that it could not decrypt... PS: Probably the most important tidbit- use quality media!!! Taiyo Yuden (stay away from eBay fakes) or Verbatim. I am sure EVERYONE will agree on that one!!!
capgeo try the free trials on some of the programs mentioned and yeah thoses ranking really dont mean alot when it comes to everyday use ,thoses rankings are for the best picture quality not nessacery the ease of using the programs and being compatable with other programs that your using them with. read my earlier post on CloneDVD2 with anydvd ,i personally think its the way to go ,try them out and let us know how you come out
Hello capgeo, That review you linked to has nothing to do with AfterDawn as far as I know. It might have possibly been an advertiser's link that you clicked on to get there if you got there from here. I'll recommend the freeware applications first to any new user. DVD Shrink and DVD Decrypter (and now DVD Fab Decrypter) provide excellent backup quality better than most programs that you have to pay for. There are plenty of guides available to use them and many people here very knowledgeable about them in case you need help with them. But if insist on buying software, I would recommend the AnyDVD/CloneDVD combo. They are easy to use and a good value for the money.
