I know this is not a new question, but I give up. I have not backed up any DVD in several years. I really can't remember how and with what programs to us. I have read the newbie and guide sections, and I guess I don't have a high enough education to understand the steps. So let's assume the DVD I'm trying to back up gives me no problems, or errors during the back up process. What programs should I use? I have downloaded the latest versions of Shrink, Imgburn, Decrypter, AnyDVD, and Ripit4me. So basic backing up what program would I use first, Shrink and then Decrypter, or vice a versa?
    Thanks

    RipIt4me is a package:
It link DVD Decrypter(Rip) > DVD Shrink (Transcoder) > DVD Decrypter(Burn).

Any DVD (Ripper) > CloneDVD2(Transcoder and Burn)as the Fox-Sheep Combo.

DVDFab7 > DVD Shrink > ImgBurn or Nero Burning Room.

    for more info:

Also go to Guides to know how each program work's.

    Good luck.

Ripit4me is a old program to rip the DVD and has not been updated in years. Just use AnyDVD to rip the DVD to the HD first then you can use Shrink on those files if that is the trancoding program you want to use. You can make the output from Shrink into an .iso file and have Imgburn burn that compilation.

Mrguss let me see if I understand the terms and steps.
At this time I would like to use Shrink and Decrypter programs if I can come to understand them.
You can Rip with DVD Decrypter, then Transcode DVD Shrink, and then burn with DVD Decrypter?
When first using Decrypter what mode do you set it to? File, IFO, ISO read or write
When first using Shrink what mode do you use, Re-author, or Back up?
When using Decrypter the 2nd time what mode do you use then?

Sorry for the simple questions. I'm just not understanding the different programs. I just don't think my brain works like it use to.

DVDDecrypter is a very old ripping program that will never be updated so it will not do the newer movies

Shrink is a very decent program that will trancode(compress) a DVD file and it will also output to .iso file

Imgburn- written by the author of DVDDecrypter- LIGHTNING UK is a very good burning engine program and it works w/ DVD Shrink

So all you need is AnyDVD, DVD Shrink, Imgburn

I have all 3. If I have AnyDVD running in the background and open Shrink do I choose Backup first or Re-author.

DVD Decrypter (Last Update in 2005) is a Ripper and a Burner !
DVD Shrink (last update was in 2004)is a Ripper and a Transcoder !
DVDClone2 is a Transcoder and a Burner (No need an update since is not a ripper)!

    RipIt4me....last update was in 2007.
ImgBurn is the new Decrypter to Burn only (Write Mode).

When you use Decrypter as a Ripper....let RipIt4me to-Guide DVD Decrypter on Automatic Mode by Ripit4me default.
If you intent to use DVD Decrypter as a Ripper alone is not smart......your results will be like a wild Cowboy.
Now DVD Decrypter as a Burner...you choose Write Mode

Shrink as a Ripper: Rip Old Movies usually made before 2006 and very few new-ones.
Shrink as a Transcoder: Deep Analysis is better for better results. But when is time to Compress or select diff Audio files, Video Files or Subtitles etc. You also choose Re-Autor and the last thing you do is Back-up.

Read and re-read your DVD Shrink Guide 'cos this program is the one you gonna be using more (3 short pages).
    http://www.afterdawn.com/guides/archive/dvd9_to_dvdr_with_dvd_shrink.cfm

NOTE: For new Movies Back-ups you need to have the latest versions of DVD Fab (7.x.x.x) or Any DVD (6.x.x.x)....so you need to keep reading all the new post on this Forum to be up-today on what is new.

If you want to use DVD Fab and also have Any DVD.....you need to turn off Any DVD 'cos usually interfere with others programs.....I never been use Any DVD if I tell you the truth, maybe some day who knows.

Good Luck and Happy Burn's !

That is where you are going incorrectly.

    1.Open AnyDVD
    2. Right click the fox head in taskbar
    3. Click "Rip Video DVD to Hardisk"

DVD Shrink can not work properly w/ the newer DVD's due to Structural Protection's. That is why you have to rip the DVD to your HD first then you can use Shrink on the ripped files.

You now want "Open Files" in DVD Shrink and find the files you just ripped

Car Mike, and Mrguss I want to thank you guys for your help. I've downloaded DVDFab and I think that will be the best for me right now. I'll try it for a while and then I may buy it. I'm sure I'll be back at some time in the future for help. I would still like to understand the other programs and terms. DVDFab seems to working for me right now. Thanks again.
