have Pinnacle Studio 8 and using a USB capture device. On the software's preview the quality isn't that bad but once downloaded to pc whilst the audio is o.k the video is awful, it looks like one of those live broadcasts from Iraq where the pic jumps 10 mins later . Can anyone give me some idea what the best settings are, i.e. codec, resolution, format and compression. Should I consider additional software? I would truly appreciate your help on the best way to improve the footage. By the way, the VHS tape is taped with LP. I'd prefer not to invest in a new software, mind u perhaps it wouldn't be such a bad idea cos with pinnacle you have to drag and drop every thumbnail one by one to a storyboard instead of cut and pasting the whole movie for later editing. Thanks guyz you've been a real help up to now xx
Hi, I don"t want to ruin your day but generally speaking most USB Capture devices are not going to produce very good quality at all and what you are seeing is probably close to as good as it will get... You should be captureing to the Highest Resolution you Can for the Best quality and not knowing if your Device uses hardware encodeing or software encodeing I couldn"t really tell you what setting to use.. It probably doesn"t have hardware encodeing so useing a Capture codec Like the HuffYuv codec if you have it is one of the better ones but it will leave you with very large files that would then need to be encoded to Mpeg useing a software encoder before you coulc create a DVD out of them.... If you have the option to Capture to Mpeg2 then Try that at a Bitrate of about 8000kbs and see how it looks....good Luck
Is there any programs that will cleanup VSH tapes so you can capture a better image or am I stuck with what I have?
Well there are Noise Filters that can clean up an Image somewhat but they generally do not work Miracles...There is a Capture program Called "X-OOM Video Clean" that has a Bunch of Filters for cleaning up the Image while Captureing, I tried it and it did work to some degree, But cleaning up the Image After captureing is not usually an option unless you are captureing to DV AVI or Uncompressed AVI because the Image has to be rendered again to add the Filters and the re-rendering will generally lower the Quality more than the Filters will clean up the Image....well good Luck
