What should I be looking for in a HD TV?

I have been putting if off long enough. My wife who is always against spending money on electronics now wants one for X-mas. I figured posting a query here is easier than researching. You can get large ones pretty cheap.

i was like you mate thinking is it worth it. im glad i did.
i bought a sony 36 inch KDL 560 quid in march with 3 yrs warranty
the picture quality was apparent straight away - crisper/sharper
less flicker - better sound - hd films look more vibrant.
after buying tv i then got ps3 the 2 together wow
gamming/hd movie all in for 249 . best money i ever spent

    Interesting...
I have never bought a warranty for any TV or monitor. However, my last was a 22" HDTV and it fell off its stand and has not been the same. I got it during the US 'black Friday' the day after Thanksgiving. That is the official 'opening day' of the X-Mass gift shopping. Retailers have the best sales of the year to draw people into their stores. We are thinking to buy one twice that size this Friday. I was just wondering if there are any must have features that not all TVs have. Probably the TVs with the too good to be true prices will not have those features.
