    I purchased a DVD burner, but haven't installed it yet. I received Pinnacle Quick Start with the burner. Other than software such as DVD Shrink, can I copy DVDs and burn them using Pinnacle, or do I need additional software such as Nero, etc.

    You won't be able to copy css encrypted DVD's with Pinnacle. I'd recommend downloading DVD Shrink for ripping and compressing down to DVD-r size. Perhaps then u can use the Pinnacle to burn the files that DVD Shrink creates onto the DVD-r.

    If you have more questions....scan down through some of the threads here and you'll likely find the answer. Also, there are detailed guides available here at AfterDawn, as well as some others that you'll see mentioned in posts.

    to create dvd's backups;
    You will need a program to rip the files to the computers hard drive (HD)
    Smartripper 1.41 (latest i'm aware of)
    DVD decryptor
    DVD shrink
    AnyDVD (not free)

    Ripping removes the CSS copy protestion whilst copying the files to the HD.
    Need up to 18Gb free space to do some rip/backups.

    If dvd is larger than 4.4Gb (size of blank DVD's) you'll have to shrink;
    use DVD shrink, see guides
    or use IFO Edit on Main movie to remove extra languages etc...
    or use Pinnacle Instantcopy, this shrinks, removes extras and burns

    Burn using Instantcopy, Nero, DVDDecryptor or other programs

    These days I'd suggest using DVD Shrink to rip and shrink.
