    Hello,
I have set up a nice older machine (PII 450MHz) with Win98SE. I do not want any new bloatware software there, so I use all the classical stuff. I have installed Windows Media Player 6.4, and I do not plan to install any newer version under any circumstances.

But as I know, WMP 6.4 can not play WMV and WMA files (and possibly other newer formats) unless those codecs are present on the system.

So far the only way to install those codecs (as I am aware) is by installing a newer WMV, like 9.0. But is there a way to install only WMV, WMA, etc. codecs by themselves? I do not want to have any contact with never WMPs.

If you know of concrete links, please provide them.
