What Type Of Harddrive Is Better

Should I go with internal or external and I already have the internal in my pc it's 40Gigs and so what would be the best secend one two pick.

Depends if your mobo supports it as for speed if your only storing data or want to store music to listen too without clogging up your main drive external will be fine,there is a speed diff between int & ext tho i can't think if it's ever been noticable by my eye

 

If you have an older MB and aren't planning on sharing data between computers I would say get an internal. They tend to have faster transfer rates than externals just due to the interface. Post up your MB make and model for better sugestions.

He means tell us the Make and model of your motherboard to see if it support multiple internal HDD, or if it supports RAID.

Not everyone who comes here is technically inclined. We all have our different skill levels.

Let's keep it simple then shall we. If you have USB (universal serial bus) connectors on your system then go with an external HDD (hard disk drive). If your system is less than 5 years old I would say you have them.
More than likely you can add a hdd internally to your system but unless you feel very comfortable with working inside your case don't! Too many things to mess up in there!!

BTW RAID stands for Redundant Array of Independent Drives (or Disks).

Personally, I'd just upgrade to a larger hard drive. Buy yourself a new 250gb or 300gb hard drive. Your current 40gb drive is way too small, esp. if you're getting into movies and music. Get a big drive, make sure it's an IDE (also called ATA) hard drive. Your current drive is an IDE, so you know the new one will work if you get an IDE drive. Then using an imaging util, copy your 40gb to the new drive so it'll boot up just like it does now, only you'll have TONS of space!!!! Price have come WAY down on these big drives and I wouldn't be surprised if you could buy a 300gb for under $100 on sale somewhere.

Actually IDE is P-ATA, not just ATA.
As for the current drive, I think they did make S-ATA hard drives that small.

Go with an interneral Sata Hard drive

 

It all depends whether or not his motherboard has S-ATA on it, we don't know.

Well it's P-ATA now, but thats because the retroactively renamed it, before it was just ATA.

More than 5 years ago? hell, I had a P3 8 1/2 years ago, so a P1 must be over 10 years!
Still, you can always get a USB2 PCI card.
