I have a 16X burner. So what type of media should I be using or what is the best to use? What I mean is do i have to use 16X disc's or can I use slower or faster. What is best?

    Stop laughing!!!
I am a true pure newbie have not attempted a burn yet.Give me time.

No it doesn't have to be 16x media. Any media will work as long as it is good quality. The two best and most recommended are verbatum and taiyo yuden. Sony, fuji (made in japan), and maxell are usually good choices too. Always look for made in japan on the wrapper except for verbatums which are made in taiwan. Stay away from memorex, HP, phillips, no name brands, and retail store branded media eg. staples, office depot, and compusa.

Yeah, what Mort81 said definitely. I had decent results with memorex until I got my first batch from cmc mag or whatever it is (write and read errors and visisble blemishes on dye). I bought my first spindle of Taiyo Yuden and after looking at the scans and 30+ burns with no coasters will never look back. The really sad part is that the good stuff practically costs the same as the crap.

Oh well, at the next party, I won't have to worry about rings on the endtables, I've got plenty of pretty memorex coasters to go around.

Plus burning at 4x is highly recommended.

4x is about par for most of us.Slower is usually better.Fewer errors means fewer coasters.Stand alone players may give you playback issues if you burn too fast.

Somebody here stated they burn their media 1 generation behind the current technology. This means 8x media should be burned at 4x.
    16x media burned at 8x.

If you have a quality burner and quality media,Then you should be ok with burning the recommended speed or above on that media. It's all about quality! Stick with the good stuff like mort81 posted.
