Hi, I am going to be putting together a PC in a few weeks and here is what I'm thinking of:

    CPU: AMD Athlon 64 3000+ (939pin)
    MoBo: ASUS A8V (939)
    Ram: Crucial 512 184pin PC-3200
Video: ASUS GeForce FX 5200 (from my old computer)

What I have right now is this:

    CPU: Intel Celeron 766Mhz
    MoBo: ASUS something
    Ram: 128mb
Video: ASUS GeForce FX5200 (bought last summer)

So I am thinking that it would be a waste to build that computer and use the FX5200. I mean it can handle games ok, I could play FarCry with my current setup with some settings adjusted but when I build the new PC I will probably want something with a bit more muscle. Given the CPU and Motherboard, what video card do you guys recommend? As you can see, I am on a bit of a budget so don't go crazy :)

    Thanks.

I usually go with a midrange card. Something in the $150-$200 range. The amount of performance increase you get with the latest and greatest really isn't worth the extra $200-250 over the mid range card for me. I would probably go with a Gerforce 6600GT or a Radeon 9800 Pro myself, but it depends on your budget and if you really have to squeeze out every extra frame per second.

if your going to go mid range .. look at the 6600 GT.

For around the same price as a 9800Pro, the 6600 GT has a higher core and memory clock. And uses GDDR3.

6600GT all the way, it runs faster than a 9800pro in games (especially in Open GL) at stock , and if you o.c both of them a 6600Gt will be even further ahead ...the 9800pro is a fast card but not a fast as a 6600GT ;)
