    Okay. So im confused.
It seems that .avi video file format is often required by some DVD authoring / burning software (like Nero 6 / Nero Vision Express2 that i use alot).
And ive been unable to use other formats like .wmv to burn to dvd which id like to be able to use straight.

Then I hear or read that its not .avi but MPEG2 which is what files haave to be converted to to create / burn / author a DVD video.?

    So what is it really?

I have video files in many different formats, some avi, some mpeg, some mpg, some wmv, etc..

Having to find yet another program then another to successfully convert a video file to another file format is a real hassle. And doesnt seem to even always work.

So what file format should i be starting with when i open my dvd authroing programs like Nero and select video files to create a video project to burn to DVD video on a DVD- or + R?

Many times when i create projects, they take like 8, 10, 15 hours and more to complete. And i have a decent notebook computer.

So what file formats do we really ultimately need to be useing when we add these video files to our dvd project to burn to a DVD video to watch on our standalone DVD players?

And how can we use any file formats like wmv, mpeg and mpg, as well as avi to add directly to our project and burn straight to dvd video on dvds?

there is no confusion.Simply all those different file formats that you have described all need to be encoded to an mpeg2 compatible format , then you will be able to burn them onto dvd disc and played in your standalone dvd player.

for avi/mpeg files use vso divx to dvd:
heres a link to some free encoding software for these files.

For wmv try using this converter:

So what do you call decent[bold]!!!!!!!!!![/bold]
