I was transcoding with NeroVision and the process failed.

    This is in the log:

    [02:12:12] DVDEngine ERROR
    [02:12:12] DVDEngine cause: 128 (nmc_processing_exception)
    [02:12:12] DVDEngine source: GetSampleData
    [02:12:12] DVDEngine description: Catastrophic failure

What does that mean and what can I do. :)

If you posted the whole log that would be really helpful.

Certainly, as GlueEater indicated, more information is required for analysis.

You can find the entire log in C:\Program Files\Ahead\Nero\Nero History

So any ideas then? I don't understand why you won't help. Unless it's something homophobic.

It just seems normal to me to copy gay porn. I mean I do make other DVDs too, but this one happened to be porn. So what?

So what is it? You're above helping a newbie? You're bigots?

My Nero problem is so obvious its beneath you?

Come on my friends - help me out. This is such a good forum I was hoping for more of a welcome.

    :)

    - i don't know whether the above failure is due to the problems detailed below or not. see next comments

ps i've edited out your serial number

    - those question marks are saying the ASPI drivers aren't loaded correctly. fix via this - http://www.afterdawn.com/software/cdr_software/cdr_tools/aspi.cfm

    - i can't remember what 'ADPU160M.SYS' is, but again, it's not loaded correctly. i'll have to do a google search on that one.

'CDRALW2K.SYS' is part of Roxio. again that's not loaded correctly, however you should uninstall Roxio anyway (doesn't always play well with Nero), then you might need to fully remove using Roxio Zapper - http://www.microadvantage.net/utilities

    @creaky

I've been waiting for you on this one. Its format is different than I have tried to parse before, so I was lost.

    Cheers.

Nobody is making any judgment about you here, it just takes time to wade thru these vision logs. A much better log for us to work from in version 6 is in Program Files>Ahead>Nero>nerohistory.txt as 9mmruger1 posted. Those logs seem to list more info, but from what creaky posted, those are the problems seen in your posted log. Please keep in mind this is a forum, not a chat room, and on the holidays, some ppl are not here. Myself, i was recovering from the new years :). Your sexual preferences makes no difference to me, or probably anyone else out there, but i can only speak for myself. I don't even care if you are from this planet or not, you have a problem, and i will try to fix it. In this case it looks like i got here too late. Your in good hands with your helpers.
Here is the firmware update for the samsung drive, but you have to match the firmware with the system that drive is in:
    http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?download_id=276
I couldn't find the sony listed.

That ADPU160M.SYS is adeptec ultra 160 m controler driver. If it is on a dell they recomend you use there version driver from them if its not on a dell then look for the true adeptec driver for it.

    Thanks very much everyone. :)

I have run the Roxio Zapper and downloaded a new aspi.exe

    1) Will Roxio Zapper have removed anything that needs replacing? (I don't use Roxio, but it was on my pc years ago).

2)Where do I put the aspi.exe before I run it?

3)And yes, my pc is a Dell. Where do I get "ADPU160M.SYS - adeptec ultra 160 m controler driver" for Dell that, if I've understood properly, I need to replace? And where does that go/how do I install?

I don't really want to mess with firmware unless absolutely necessary and will leave that until these other things are fixed.

You can install aspi from anywhere it will put the files where they need to be.

To get any updated drivers for the controler you will need to get them from dell site. I think you will need to reg the comp if have not already to get an account to then get to there download area.

The zapper should not remove anything but roxio.

OK. Right. I've looked around a bit and the ADPU160M.SYS drivers on my system located in I386 and SYSTEM32\DRIVERS haven't been accessed for some time. So perhaps Nero can't get to them because...

...the information below leads me to think that perhaps I have some Windows service turned off that Nero needs? If so what would that be?
    ------
The process Adaptec Ultra160 SCSI miniport belongs to the software Microsoft® Windows® Operating System by Microsoft Corporation (www.microsoft.com).

Description: adpu160m.sys is located in the folder C:\Windows\System32\drivers. The file size on Windows XP is 101888 bytes.
The driver can be started or stopped from Services in the Control Panel or by other programs. It is a Windows core system file. The program is not visible. It is a trustworthy file from Microsoft.
    ---------

So what service should I turn on again?

Also, do I need a new ADPU160M.SYS ? I looked around on the net and at the Dell site, but to no avail. If necessary could someone email it to me? Presumeable I just substitute it for the old ones and reboot... having turned on whatever service is requred.

I hope this all makes sense. :)

If you browse to the sys file in windows explorer and right click on it and select properties then version tab Does it look anything like this?
Again I must say with your comp being a dell you may need to get any if any updates from them. I have no way of knowing what controler they have in it. This driver is very vague and is for a complete line of controlers. The ultra160m has like 6 or more controler chipsets in it.

I'm sorry but I don't understand, what I should do? Assuming I can get the right driver (from Adaptec or maybe Dell) can I just replace the current file with the new one?

Or is some installation process required?

... I have now found the Adaptec driver (I hope it is the right one) and it comes with 2 files of the same name (ADPU160M) that are "secuity catalog" and one is "setup information". Would the other two also have to be installed somehow... (or just inserted, or just ignored?)

    * The new one I have is Value: Adaptec Windows XP Ultra160 Miniport
    Version: 6.2.0.0

Yes, my new one is identical to your screenshot (as far as I can see).

    The old one is -
    version: 5.1.2484.0
    name: Adaptec Ultra160 SCSI miniport

And about my question regarding turned off processes/services. Is that anything? :)

Go into device manager then bring up the controler right click on it and select properties then select driver tab then you will see a button that say update driver. You will then point it to the inf file for the driver.

For the services you dont need to bother with it. It runs in background. The services are called when needed.
