This is what i use on my machine: AVG (freeware) - scans and deletes viruses/spyware/malware. SpywareTerminator (freeware) - scans for Spyware and delets it. Comodo Personal Firewall (freeware) - its a firewall that lets you see and manage all your active connections.
Some people have recommended Clam AV to me but i dont know how effective it is. but yes AVG is a pretty good Antivirus
Avast, Antivir or AVG. Avira Antivir may update slowly at times but always does. A new one is Rising AV, supposed to have very good spyware protection. A large download but runs very light, I hear, and same as paid version but free. Spyware Blaster also works well here and you'll never know it's installed except to run updates. Comodo Firewall is good from everything I read.
the only program that is immune to any known/unknown spyware/virus is the free "returnil". Whenever I surf the internet I always have "returnil" running in the background. You still need a firewall and antivirus program, because "returnil" won't stop the viruses or spyware from getting in your computer, but once they get in they only exist in "system memory" they won't touch your hard drive. "Returnil" won't slowdown your computer like antispyware. Once you reboot anything that happened while you where surfing the internet disappears. My computer 1.zonealarm firewall 2.avg free antivirus 3.firefox browser 4.returnil I haven't had a virus or spyware problem in over a year. http://www.majorgeeks.com/Returnil_Virtual_System_Personal_Edition_d5702.html
Another nice tool is Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware. You can download it and run the scanner. Just when you thought your pc was clean, this may surprise you. You can also purchase the full version if you want to but I just use the scanner. http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam.php
