What's best about the PAL/NTSC problem? To patch the ISO (converting to my console's system [PAL]) or will it have the same effect as using the special booting option in Swap Magic 3.6? As of now, without patching, I can play the game in colors but: 1. On my small tv, it only fills 3/4 of the screen. 2. On my big TV, it fill almost 100% of it, but the lateral screen borders are somewhat curved (but there is no image distortion). So, if anyone of you has tried both or the former method, could share his experience? Thanks.
ive noticed with some people that the swap magic thing doesnt work There are three steps to patching a game from PAL to NTSC. 1)Make an ISO file of the game 2)Patch the ISO file 3)Burn the patched ISO file 1)Make an ISO file of the game a)Download and install DVD Decrypter. The download is available at http://dl.afterdawn.com/SetupDVDDecrypter_3.5.4.0.exe b)Run DVDDecrypter.exe c)Select Mode-->Iso-->Read d)For the Source, choose the dvd drive that has the game in it. e)For the Destination, select a location to save the ISO file. f)Select File-->Decrypt. This will now create the ISO for the game. 2)Patch the ISO file a)Download PS2 PAL TO NTSC PATCHER WITH Y-FIX V1.06 BETA ***You can download it here: http://www.geocities.com/jayteemaster2003/ps2_pal2ntsc_yfix_source.zip b)Run ps2_pal2ntsc_yfix.exe c)Click Browse and select the iso file of the game d)Select 48 as the Y-Fix offset. You cannot have it perfectly centered because the PAL signal has more lines or resolution than the NTSC signal does. This is as close as you can get. You can raise the offset if you need to see more of the bottom of the screen or you could lower the offset if you want to see more of the top of the screen. e)I choose to uncheck Make PN Selector f)Click PATCH FILE. The following screen will pop up. g)This means that the elf file of the game was backed up to your hard drive. Just click ok and exit the program. 3)Burn the patched ISO file a)Run DVDDecrypter.exe b)Select Mode-->Iso-->Write c)For the Source, locate your patched ISO file. The program patches and overwrites your orignal ISO file. Select your orignal ISO file. e)For the Destination, select the dvd drive you wish to burn the game. f)Select your prefered write speed g)Select File-->Write. This will now burn the game. I got this off this forum hope it helps
Thanks for the reply, but I had already read that post somewhere here in the forum. My question is: what's the difference between patching and using the swap magic PAL/NTSC option? Also, my PSTwo is PAL, so that means converting NTSC -> PAL. I know how to patch, but I just wondered if anyone already knows and could give me the answer, instead of risking to waste a DVDR or two to check it out.
get a mod chip in your PS2, that would be the best one i can think of. If you get a good one like the DMS4 Pro then it will also have many other benefits other than playing both PAL & NTSC games. Like being able to play dual layer back ups, not having to use swap discs, being able to use AR Max without and extra effort and so on. Or you can buy a converter for your TV also
On a similar note: I have seen 50/60 hz selectors built into some games. Is this ability done with a patch of some sort? I would be interested to add such a function if it's possible....
quite a few games ive seen have that option in them but i dont think its a patch, but you never know there maybe one out there, but i havent seen it
