    Heh heh, Wild77,

That's the beauty of it my Friend, there's nothing you have to do except when you go to "Backup" - Then just chose under "Select backup target", 'Hard Disc Folder AND Burn with CopyToDVD" and everything will go automatically :p)

    Cheers,

    Pete

I wanted to compare Nreo to CopytoDVD because my free trial runs out in a few days. I realy like CopytoDVD it has all the features I am looking for at a very reasonable price.I backed up Terminator 3 at 8x on a 4x dvd+r (by accident)on my Plextor PX-712. Forgot to adjust the settings in CopytoDVD before starting the backup. Can't wait to try the new PX-716 SATA dual layer drive!

Wow, been here a day and a half and learned more than I have in the past 10 months!

I kind of skimmed through this thread without reading every post thouroughly, but I think I jot the jist (is that a real word??) of the thread.

After becoming totally frustrated with Nero about 10 months ago (probably my fault!), I bought 321's Xcopy Platinum. It works great, but has it's drawbacks as mentioned in this thread.

Later I bacame a Roxio nut and love their software. Now I've been told that Roxio and Nero don't get along very well. :-(

For now, I'm using DVD Decrypter and Roxio Disc Copier. A nice combination in my opinion, but I'm too new to have an opinion! :)

Also, I recently bought a Pioneer DVR-108 16X DVD+-RW Double Layer Writer and I'm very happy with it. Works great and much faster than my old Sony 4x DVD writer. I was trying to buy the new Plextor drive, but wasn't available yet (714 ???). Note I say "old Sony!" I think it's only been around for a year or so.

Bought the Pioneer on November 11 (2004) for $129.99 plus $12.55 S&H (no tax). Not sure if I'm supposed to advertise any websites here, so if anyone is interested in where I bought it, PM me.

Anyway, that'my two cents for now. Special thanks to Pete and flip for pointing me in the right direction in the Newbie forum.

Edit: Pete, I forgot about a another burner I think you mentioned buying. You have to explain to the wife that "Three's Company!" :)

    Good to hear LeoLeroy,

    Hey, we're glad you're burning up a storm :)
Consider this an invitation, stop on back, don't be a stranger, you're welcome even if you don't have problems to solve -

You can just "Hang out" and read some, improve your knowledge, help others if you can spot their problem, 3 heads are better than 2 (said the Cyclops to the Ogre) Or you could hang out in the "Safety Valve," a forum for gossiping about anything and everything under the sun :)

Check de place out, you just might find a little something that'll interest you -

Me ? Hey, I'll be over there, out from under that broiling hot sun, under the "Potted" Palm, right next to the water cooler. Just chewin' the fat and waiting for the next Newbie who needs a bit "O" help - Stop by and say "Howdy" -

I'll be lQQking forward to Sea'n you,

    Cheers my friend,

    Pete :p)

Scuba Pete, On Novermber 22 you made a very useful post about combinations of tools to use for dvd replication and authoring. Was wondering if I could impose on you to give your personal preferences as to which of these combinations work best for which jobs.

    Thanks for you helpful tips

    Xolarrin,

    Here you go:

    ScubaPete's program Rating Chart.
    (in no specific order)

DVD Shrink, Very good ripper, excellent for normal backups (using the Deep Analysis and Quality Enhancements)

DVD Decrypter, good for burning w/ DVD Shrink and excellent for problem rips.

Nero Ultra Edition, good to excellent suite of proggys - wide range of uses

DVD2One, excellent for joining "Flipper" DVD's and doing episodel work

Nero's recode2, excellent for custom editing DVD's, joining "flipper" DVD while keeping the menus

CopyToDVD, excellent for burning, considered the fastest burning proggy around

AnyDVD, the best "behind the scenes" DVD Ripper (can't do it all, still requires a backup ripper)

DVD43 (free), fair to medium for a "behind the scenes" ripper

CloneDVD2 (elby), very good for an encoder / burner when DVD's register 95% or better

CloneDVD 2(not elby), poor to fair doing anything. Not recommended

DVD XCopy, RF Platinum w/patch, fair to good for movie only. Not recommended, too many conflicts, discontinued

dvd Santa, fair to medium as an "all-in-one" rendering proggy

DVDCopy 2 (InterVideo), good to very good encoding / burning proggy, extremely fast

    I fell like a sucker!!!

I bought DVD X COPY PLATINUM on the web for $75 (ripper included version) a couple of days ago. I haven't received it yet.

Through the web I found you guys and read all the forums regarding copy programs.

I downloaded DVD SHRINK and was able to burn a very acceptable copy of 'Riddick' using SHRINK and Roxio Easy DVD Copy.

Did I throw $75 down the drain...

    It look like I have.

SHRINK was so easy to use and worked very well with only turning off my virus protection.

Should I keep DVD X COPY PLATINUM when I get it or sell the unopened retailers copy?

They shouldnt even be selling DVD X Copy anymore the program has been discontinued. Good luck trying to sell that to anyone who know's a little about backing up DVD's. I would see if you could return it to who you bought it from?

Hey wanna buy some land in Florida? LOL I'm just kiddin.. :) You are already using one of the best programs (DVD Shrink) out there to back up your DVD's. So there is no need to even open DVD X Copy when it gets there.
    Good Luck,

dvdxcopy-international is now selling platinum and offering support. If you bought your xcopy anywhere else you may have a problem.Either way return platinum and keep using Shrink.Xcopy is outdated I use DVD Decrypter then DVD Shrink with NERO CopytoDVD or Decrypter to burn. That's what is so great about this site, all the different combinations I have found.Keep trying until you find what you like!

Hi Andy and welcome to aD,

The company they are talking about bought all of 321's stock after they went out of business. Most of the members here bought XCopy too. I got mine when they first came out and the price was $59.99 for the original DVD XCopy then later we got Xpress for a Free upgrade. Anyway, we then found, as you did, DVD Shrink and other proggys like it and felt "cheated" also.

My recommendation, sell the "sealed" XCopy on eBay, you should be able to get full price for it. Even friends of yours will be interested but then again, when they find out about our proggys, they'll feel cheated too - Re-thinking it, better to go the eBay route.

My suggestion at this time, since you've just started using Roxio, consider getting rid or Roxio. My reason, Roxio behaves like a $3.00 whore. Greedy and selfish wanting to infect every sailor (other proggys) on the dock (your PC). Roxio is probably the reason you had difficulty with your Virus Scan. We have a ton of programs but one of the best proggys we have is Nero. Roxio won't allow Nero to play in the same schoolyard during recess.

If you decide to do it - you'll need this –

In order to cleanly and totally remove all of Roxio's tentacles and tendrils from your system, use Roxio's own uninstall program and then, use either Roxizap OR Roxio Zapper – Here are the links:

    A great Roxio remover

    Roxizap:
    http://softwareupdates.roxio.com/gm/support/tools/roxizap.exe

    Roxio Zapper:
    http://www.microadvantage.net/downloads/zapper60.zip

A good proggyn to use with DVD Shrink is DVD Decrypter (FREE). It will burn "automatically" when used with Shrink saving you several steps in the backup process.

Here's a guide and the download for the proggy -

    http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/2/74599

    Cheers,

    Pete

That's right ScubaPete about Roxio. I used it years back and had a lot of problems with it. Then in 2001 I upgraded my operating system to Windows XP and sure enough Roxio wouldn't recognize my drives so I had to wait for a patch to come out and that is when I jumped on the Nero band wagon and have had excellent success. Nero works great with DVD Shrink and Nero Recode works great with Slysofts AnyDVD. As far as DVDXCopy goes I bit the bullet on that one. I had plenty of problems with certain movies and when I got hooked up with DVD Shrink presto problems were solved not to mention finding out Nero was incorperated into DVD Shrink.
