Hi Everyone, First post so bear with me. I've heard that some PS2's might like dvd-r while others like dvd+r. Is this true? If so, does anyone have the breakdown on which models like which format. I made some dvd-r backups of a couple of my movies, but they don't play. Trying to get some info from the intelligent and ever-so-helpful afterdawn community before I go out and buy some dvd+r's. Thanks for any advice you may have. Don't have the PS2 with me at work, so I can't give you the model#.
I have had luck with Ritek R03 DVD+R 8x and Taiyo Yuden DVD+R 8x (Taiyo Yuden is the Best). Also, cheaper DVD+R media will work like Memorex, but I do not recommend you try that as they may go bad in a few years. I have the 3000 series ps2 (the fat ones). I also tried on the 5000 series and that worked as well. I think the newer slim ones are more compatible with copied movies. I would recommend good media. Get Taiyo Yuden (including Sony and Fujifilm DVD+R 8x Made in Japan), Verbatim, or Maxell Made in Japan.
Verbatim DVD[bold]-[/bold]R, and burn at 4x or less, you should not have a problem on your PS2, i have tried this on v3, v9 and slim pstwo and they work great.
M: What's the brand name and model# of your dvd writer? By your ps2 not playing: Do you mean it gives you some sort of no disc inserted error? I bypass the dash format and booktype my plus media to dvd-rom. This booktyping makes my backups able to be played on a lot more players.I have had about 5 ps2's play my backups and 1 old v1 or v2 ps2 wouldn't recognize both my dvd-rom and dash backups. I've even had buddies who said their players wouldn't play the plus format, but I threw a booktyped plus backup at them and they were amazed. This booktyping fools stand alones/pc drives/and game consoles into thinking they are actual dvd-roms. That the more universally compatable of all the dvd formats.Only the plus format can be booktyped, and not all burners support this feature.
Thanks everyone for the advice. I have a lite-on dvdrw sohw-1633s. I used verbatim dvd-r (MCC). But I believe I burned it at like 8x. I will try another burn at 2x. I will also try to bookmark a dvd+r, if I can figure out how to do it. I'll kep you guys posted on my findings. Thanks again fellas, I really appreciate all the feedback!!!
Yep, Lite-on has it's own booktyping utility. You may want to pm mort81,that's in his area of specialty with that utility. He'll hook you up with the link to download it. Just make sure if you get the plus format media, that they are of high quality like the maxell/fuji/verbatim data life plus/and sony-Made in Japan on their +1x-8x. Good Luck
