I just got a burner and have decoded one of my DVDs to my hard drive. Neither the files on the HD nor any DVDs i put in the drive will play in WMP or Nero Showtime2. Do i need special software or is there something i am doing wrong?

    Hi Morglum

I'm no expert on these issues, but you need some additional software to play dvd video files (which are mpeg2 files). You can either install a dvd software player, or install an mpeg2 codec which will enable you to watch dvd video with your existing player software (windows media player).

    Mpeg2 codec - http://www.videohelp.com/tools?tool=Stinkys_MPEG2_Codec
This is just one, there are many available, so might be better to have a search for "mpeg2 codec" before you install this. But this one should do the job.

    Software DVD player - http://getfreedownloadz.com/index.asp?PID=bccbcc47-a141-4d5c-85cf-5865ca4519a0&sft=34
This is the VLC media player which plays a lot of files and is a good piece of software. Instead of installing the seperate mpeg2 codec you can install this, it's good to have on your system anyway I find.

    Good luck!
