I use TMPGEnc DVD Author 1.6, and have since I bought it 1.5 and updated to 1.6 for a couple years now. I use DVDSanta, and Nero Vision Express to generally convert from avi to a format useable by TMPGEnc DVD Author, but there are time this just does not work. So what is a good suggestion for converting avi to mpeg-2 please anyone, preferably also something faster than real time converting or slower as in some converters?

Try Power Video Converter or X Video Converter.

try tmpeg express first then tmpeg author. The programs are made to go hand and hand.

Anyone been able to maybe use Microsofts GraphEdit to convert avi to mpeg, allowing pal to ntsc format change and frame size change to 4:3 or 16:9?
I was able to convert a avi to mpg through GraphEdit but there was no sound and I included a sound decoder, encoder and multiplexer, mind you I had to do the lines myself as GraphEdit could not find a link from avi to mpg by itself.

    Thank-you

Actually, you can use winavi video converter to convert your avi to mpeg. Not only can the output mpeg be Authored by TMPGEnc DVD Author, but also it supports PAL to NTSC format change when converting. By the way, you can get a trial version of the program from the following link: http://www.winavi.com/avi-to-mpeg.htm
