Ok all my DVD are mine first of all and i want to back up my collection!

Ive been using DVD X Copy PLatinum but thanks to a recent DVD called Resident Evil APOCYLYPSE it added some copy protection thing and now the program says every dvd is ENCRYPTED SO......

I need a better program to copy DVDs! Which is the best currently? I dont do ripping! I just need something that you pop the dvd in and it copies it to another DVD!

    Thanks!

Sorry to sound contradictory, but the BEST programs (and the best combinations of programs) tend to be the ones that include ripping in the process.

    Examples:

1-DVD Decrypter to rip and DVDDecrypter to burn
2-DVD Shrink to rip, and Nero to burn
3-DVD Decrypter to rip and Nero to burn
4-DVD Decrypter to rip and DVDShrink to compress the size so it will fit and then finally DVDDecrypter to burn
5-DVD Decrypter to rip and DVDShrink to compress the size so it will fit and then finally Nero to burn
6-DVD Shrink to rip, and DVDDecrypter to burn

I could go on. The combination above are among the "best," though. None are perfect, in that none will work for every disc out there. For example, if the original is a dual layer DVD-R type of disc, then you would have to use either 2, 4, 5, or 6. But, if it was one of the newer Sony or Columbia discs with Sony ArCCos copy protection, then you would have to use 1, 3, 4, or 5. There are other similar variables.

Going directly from DVD to DVD (without any ripping at all) is possible in some cases, with some discs, but it is not recommended by most. The risks of failure increase greatly, and you are going to end up with a lot more "coasters" in the long run. Ripping to a hard drive allows you to be secure that the decryption part of the process worked. It allows you to test the files, to make sure they are accurate, and playable, prior to putting in a blank DVD that cost you money. It allows you to then manipulate or re-author the files, if necessary, to pick and choose what you wish to be on the final version, or to try to "compress" the files so that they will fit on your blank (since most discs released today are dual-layer discs, and twice the size of the commonly used blank discs that most are still buying, the DVD-R and DVD+R single layer blank discs.)

    Remember this --

DVDShrink can rip. It can also "shrink" larger discs (using compression) so that they can fit onto the popular single layer blanks. This makes it almost vital, in many cases.
DVDShrink cannot burn, though. It can be told to automatically start up another program (Nero) and to begin burning, so you do not have to run back to the computer. This can make it almost seamless. But, by itself, it cannot burn.

DVDDecrypter can rip. But, it cannot shrink larger discs. So, it has its limitations, too. BUT, it can burn. And, its burning program is terrific. It is also terrific in that it can handle a lot of the new, recently released discs which DVDShrink can not handle, due to a new form of copy protection.

Nero can burn, and is one of the two best burners on the market (in most people's opinion).

In summary: Yes, you can avoid the ripping, but expect to have more frustration than success.

    Good post!
Imho Decrypter is the best ripper out there now and a must have.
The other combo to have and my personal favorite is AnyDVD with Nero Recode. Both cost $ unlike some of Bruce999 combos.
AnyDVD is updated regularly and should work with XCopy.
AssassinZ try some of the other programs - they can do alot more than Xcopy and I think you'll even like them more than Xcopy.

If thats what you want then your best bet is the AnyDVD and CloneDVD2 combination mentioned above.

However if you really like DVD X Copy (God knows why) then you can use AnyDVD and just use your X Copy as you always have. AnyDVD is just a driver that basically tricks your PC into believing the DVD has no encryption or region code so it will work with just about anything..

I tried Clone DVD but it was horrible. Most movies it would always be under 50% for quality. Where as something like DVD X Copy the same movies would always be above 50%, but obviously i cant use it now.

Ok, well i have a few more question!

    1. Is there any way to get rid of this protection thing on my computer i got from Resident Evil Apocylpse? I forget what it is called.

    2. Are these diffrent programs you mentioned (i got AnyDVD) easy to use and how long do they take?

Sorry for all the questions its just ive read this DVD ripping stuff for years and ive never understood it thats why ive always stuck to the easy(crappy) things like DVD X Copy.

As I stated in the post just above yours
So you see you can still use your X Copy

However Clone DVD 2 is much better you just may need to learn how to use it a little better here is a easy to follow guide http://home.comcast.net/~bbmayo/BACKUP WITH CLONEDVD&ANYDVD.pdf

1: Yes - it's called Sony ARccOS. At this time both AnyDVD and Decrypter (US movies) can handle it.
2: Yes they are easy to use. AnyDVD is just a driver - see bbmayo's post above and use his guides. The time will depend on system specs and the program you use with the different options like say deep analysis, slow burning speed etc.
Me - even though I have CloneDVD2 - I still prefer Nero's Recode. Everyone has their own favorites.

I started to read the guide and thats the problem. Everyone copies JUST the movie. My dvd player for some reason wont play dvds if i JUST copy the movie so i have to copy the whole disc... hence me having to copy the dvd.

I mean ill try it the guides way but so far i havent gotten the dvd player to run i singe dvd where it was just the movie.

That whole statement doesnt really make any sense? Maybe it was just the way you were doing it before? There should be no difference in playability if you do it right. Heck it should play even easier with just the main movie. You see the structures will still be the same of the whole disk or the main movie disk only.. I reccomend you give anyone of my guides a try and you will see that your disks will work I am 99.9% sure of it.. Had to leave .01% just in case ;-) LOL

Holy crud!!! It worked!!!! All this time maybe i was just doing it wrong! Usually i would just copy the movie and have it copy it at max speed and not adjust any other setting really.

But the movie actually worked in my DVD player!!! Woohoo!!! Now if i could only uninstall or remove that Sony ARccOS driver thats on my system. Yeah i know AnyDVD bypasses it but it makes my DVD X Copy useless....but then again who needs that when you got DVD Clone2!

    A trillion thanks!!!!

Glad it is working for you :)

There is no Sony ARccOS drive or anything like that on your system. That is an encryption found on some of the newer DVD's out there.

Anyway CloneDVD 2 is far superior to DVD X Copy in so many ways it doesnt really matter just quit using that dinasour all together. If you want to back up your DVD's for free just use the first guide posted at my site it requires a little more work, but hey both proggys are free!!

This is really stupid of me to ask still since i wont be using it but...

If it doesnt install any drivers on your system then how come no matter what disc i put in my system (even ones i copied before) it says they are encrypted? Obviously it did something to the DVD X Copy. I even tried reinstalling it!

Anyways ill check back for the answer later. In the mean time ill start backing up the rest of my collection!

AnyDVD is a driver. As for it showing encryption on previous copied discs it could be the RCE. I don't think xcopy removes that. At least the one I used to use didn't. Also if you have checked the option to show disc info it will always bring up the disc's info even if there is no protection on it.
