    Hey everyone,
What's currently the best cIOS (cIOS + Rev) and NeoGamma version to use to play backup games using discs? I currently have NeoGamma R7 and cIOS38 Rev 14 installed as IOS249 and am running on firmware 3.3U. I've heard that the latest (complete/final) NeoGamma version is R8 and the latest Rev for cIOS38 is Rev 19 (or was it Rev 18?). Are these better than the ones that I currently have? I also need to know whether Rev 18/19 has dual layer support or not and about its game compatibility (if it has particular issues with certain games), so please include that in your answer too! Cheers!

Here is an interesting article on Wii-Media.nl about NeoGamma R9 Beta12 that may answer your questions:

    Hope you find this useful

Hi, yes the best version currently is cIOSrev 19 and neogamma R9 which will allow you to load gamecube games :)

CIOSrev 19 will help you run problem titles like Monster Hunter 3 etc. Certain games especially the rock band and guitar hero games need additional ios files installed to make them work correctly such as cIOS222[38+37]-v4.wad

Thanks for all the help everyone!

Correct me if I'm wrong, but can't you only install additional cIOS files if you use a HDD to load games? Well, that's my understanding of it at least and it may or may not be wrong. If it IS possible to install more cIOSs though, could someone please post a link to a guide? Keep in mind that I want to find the best way to run DISC BACKUPS. The link that HackingWii posted states that Rev 19 "allows using different IOS as base to fix games which require this". Is this what gamemods means by installing additional IOS files?

    Cheers!

You can install any cios you want they are wad files using wad manager. A IOS is a driver the wii uses for games to use the hardware correctly. that is why certain games need certain IOS or CIOS to run correctly. Guitar hero games need different drivers to use the mics correctly. A CIOS is a CUSTOM IOS an IOS is the orginal driver provided by nintendo or the manufacturer of the game. That's what the C stands for.

I have installed every modchip there is and honestly you are better off to use the softmod and just buy a $50 hard drive. Save yourself from burning games on disc etc. or you can get the wudebox which does the same thing but is a hard mod. And you can update your wii all you want. :)

honestly, disc backups are NOT worth it. if you want the physical disc, buy the game. simple as that.

cIOSX_rev20 IOS249(base57) and IOS250(base56), configurable usb loader, and a 2.5" hard drive is all i need. ripped all my games to the hard drive and they just work.

Hmm, as tempting as a hard drive sounds, unfortunately using one isn't an option for me. I might consider using one in the future, though.

I know that multiple cIOSs can be installed simultaneously, but is NeoGamma programed to accept all of them or can it only utilize one? I'm asking this because at the bottom of NeoGamma's main screen, the IOS that is being used is displayed. This gave me a guess that it may only accept one cIOS at a time (though I may be completely wrong). This also made me wonder, "Is it possible to install more than one base onto a single slot (they're called "slots", aren't they?)?" and, "Can cIOSs be installed without first deleting an IOS and replacing it with the cIOS"?

Sorry for all the questions, I'm just curious. You can ignore them if you want. :) Anyway, cheers to everyone for all the help and recommendations!

"Is it possible to install more than one base onto a single slot (they're called "slots", aren't they?)?"

No, I dont think so. And they are generally referred to as slots, yes.

"Can cIOSs be installed without first deleting an IOS and replacing it with the cIOS"?

Sure they can, but nintendo has installed blank IOS's into the slots where the cIOS's for homebrew are installed, so those empty IOS's (usually called stubs) need to go before you can install cIOS's.

Just follow the guide I linked to (or another if you found a simpler one) and make sure you complete every step in order. You don't need to understand every step right away, I didn't when I first started softmodding, but even without that I was able to successfully softmod the wii.
