Recently I have been having a little debate with myself over which option was the best way to run a jtag.... 1. Installing a new HDD into a jtagged 360 and running games as GoDs or extracted ISOs from the 'internal' memory....or.. pros - no extra 'things' attached to the machine, the option of launching titles as GoDs. cons - time lost converting ISOs and confusing hexadecimal file structure. 2. Running extracted ISOs from an external USB pros - easier mangement of files and folders over a USB connection. cons - a bunch of extra steps to launch XeXMenu, etc. What do YOU think? Would love to hear some opinions on this one. Thanks gang!
internal hdd runs stuff more smoothly imo imagine running your pc from an external hd though i don't see any reason why you can't have both
after thinking about this a bit I agree, but I'm not entirely sure how to manage my data once a new 2.5" drive is installed, I don't want to be taking hte thing apart every time I want to update the information.
you could use a portable hd or thumb drive and copy the files over with xexmenu or freestyle dash etc., or you can ftp the files over with any ftp program. it might be more convenient with some games for you to just use the external hd, thats why i use both. Plus my external hd is always coming in handy for all sorts of things. But like i said some games run more smoothly, for instance some arcade games that rarely read from the drive don't seem to like the load time when the external hd spins up after 20 mins of being idle. Even with sleep mode turned off most external hard drives don't have the best load times after being idle for a while.
Good points. I was wondering about the usefulness of a Data Transfer Cable to manage my data. I've heard however that they won't work with jtag. Do you think it's worth the buy? (Probably not with XeXMenu)
FTP is the easiest. Just plug in an ethernet port and you are good to go. Extracting a game iso takes about 8-15 minutes depending on how fast your computer is. Transferring it via FTP takes about 20-30.
Ah there's the problem I didn't think of, I profile swap with a jump drive because I still love playing games online with friends. I'll look up the dashlaunch way. I suppose I could just make sure there's no profiles on the machine when I fire it up? The Date Transfer Cable idea is sounding better (for the amount of times it'd be done)
Just make a new profile for the JTAG drive. You aren't able to play online with it anyways so there isn't any reason to put your main profile on there anyways. You should be using dashlaunch. The data transfer cable is a lot of wasted effort and is only marginally faster.
I just read that I can use a crossover cable to connect directly to the PC and transfer that way with FTP Has anybody ever tried the Data Transfer Cable?
You don't need a crossover cable. I believe that was for the orignal xbox. Any ethernet cable will do. Data transfer cable is absolutely awful for doing anything.

I think he needs a crossover cable to connect if he doesn't have a router. A crossover cable is used when connecting two devices directly to one another.
Yeah, I'd rather keep my machine as far away from a router as humanly possible. I'll try a crossover first.
dude if you don't connect it to the internet and your network you miss out on all sorts of features like updates for freestyle dash(rxe), xlink, ftp, streaming movies from your pc. just go into the family settings on the main dashboard and block live access, works like a charm. and/or use an offline account ---------------------------------------------- also the transfer cable does work with xplorer360 or "party buffalo drive explorer" for getting stuff on the hdd directly it might be faster than ftp for you
