If you're starting with the AVI you don't use Decrypter. Are you just having burning problems or are is the problem with converting to DVD format? In either case I'd recommend posting in the Nero forum and someone can probably help you there. Otherwise I'm sure someone here can help you find software that will do what you need.

well for one thing the avi files that you have are more thain likley downloaded right? i would not wast good money on downloaded files just use verb's or fuji, theese are good media and not to expencive, also convertxtodvd is one of the best converters out there, and if nero is messing up on you you could use ashampoo it is a good burning program, but also vso convertxtodvd will also burn to disk, good luck happy burning have a nice day

i tried a trial version of convertxtodvd but the picture came out widescreen and a bit pizelated, i think this is because it did not allow me to chose screen size. would the official copy of that software let me change those things?? also i am talking about burning to disk only. various media files i have collected, i want everything on DVD and iw as hoping to find the ultimate converter and mostly what people use themeselves. i guess there are a handful of selections that are all good....

Usually ConvertX makes the right choice on WS vs. FS. In settings 'Automatic' should do it. Very rarely it makes the wrong choice based on the info provided by the source. You can then change it manually before proceeding as clicking on the file will tell you what it has chosen to encode at. ConvertX's encoder does a nice job, choose 'High Quality/Slow" in settings. If the end result looks bad it's probably because of the source, not the encoding.

Thanks for all the suggestions. They are downloaded AVI's. A cousin was over for THanksgiving and showed me the software and websites for bittorrent files. The downloaded stuff, so far, doesn't seem worth it. Took a whole day to download even on my cable modem, 5 hrs to convert in Nero before I could actually burn it. Does anyone have a simpler way to download, convert and burn or is this everyone's problem?

Avi2DVD is fairly easy and straight forward. You still have to encode to DVD though so the 5 hours cannot be skipped.

Quiller99 when you are doing your converting don't do any multitasking, and try to turn off any unnessery programs that you don't need at that time, that will help on your time as far as converting your files, try to use good media, and donm't burn faster thain 4x, one other thing it is frowned on here when you say (I usually rent and backup) that is a no no, that can get you banned from theese forums, and it is called piracy. so just a heads up we don't need to know where you get your movies from, and what ever you do don't say that you are copying rental dvd's ok? it would be a good thing to edit your post, and take that part out ok? good luck happy burning have a nice day

Hi Quick Question - What is the fastest (with good quality) Converting software between DVD Santa, XSO ConvertX to DVD or WINAVI?

Also, why should you never burn anything faster than 4X (I have 16x) and I just got it so trying to learn

VSO ConvertXtoDVD is best by far in my opionion. Also, as for HAVING to burn @ 4x, that's not correct. You can burn upto 12x safely (eg, good burns), some people like to burn @ 16x, but it produces slightly lower quality burns.

Thank you so much for your reply.. One last question.. When I purchase the full version of conversion software IE VSO ConvertXtoDVD can I use this software at 2 diff computers (I have a laptop and a desktop)? and if so, Should i burn the software or just download the 2 trials and put the same serial for both... Thanks

If on diff machines then it shoudl be ok. However, I reccomend you don't register it until you've installed it on both PCs.

    Should be OK though.

Alternitively, copy the files across once you have installed with the serial.

Unfortunately there is no definitive answer on burn speed. Some people prefer burning at slower speeds but some media and burners get better results at 8x or faster (better PI/PO and all that junk). Check out this forum http://club.cdfreaks.com for all you ever wanted to know and more. It's a minefield and I usually just burn at 8x.
