The question begs with your short post. How much have you used these programs? Winavi isnt the best encoder, but it does do the job! Dvdsanta isnt my favorite program but it does do what its supposed to do! Other encoders that are quite fast are mainconcept mpeg encoder and vso divx to dvcd which is very fast and very popular. Then you have the no so fast ones like nero and cucucsoft's avi to mpeg
well, ive been using them for quite some time and i was wondering if someone knew of a better(faster)program other than winavi or vso to divix. which isnt very fast but as you put it"does what its suppose to".tks
ANDMERR is right, there are plenty out there which "Do what they are supposed to do". It's all in how you are able to use the particular tools available to you. Personally Santa, and MainConcept have done everything and more for me and I think they rock! Maybe you need a new machine?
let's see...i'm using a 1.70ghz dell with windows xp,i try 2 keep it in shape doing the nessary cleaning etc.winavi was doing fine but i ran into some problems with it glitching so i switched to vso to divix but it seems to take longer now.plus 512m hope you can help solve my problem.tks
Well theres ya problem for starters. Dell sucks. Two 1.7 intel is nothing and crap by today standards. For video encoding you need a amd. My amd in my sig runs stock at 2.2 and I do sometime overclock it. But at 2.2 its comparable to a 3.7 extreme edition intel. Cause amd has more duty cycles by 1.5 than intel does per second. So 3700+ in essence means its comparable to 3.7 intel. And trust me at stock it rocks, but with the overclock its insane. With divx to dvd I run somewhere between 60-70 fps. Whats ya running? So I can convert and burn in bout a hr to a hr and half anything. And mine does support dual channel memory, but current im running pc2700 slow as mollasses ram in single channel. If I got some good pc3200 dual channel ram like 2 x 512 then I betcha I would hit 80 fps or more. So the moral of the story is is it's not the proggie's fault. Its ya hardware. Time to update and never ever buy a dell. Go buy a few nic matched parts and build ya own. Not only will it perform better and be cheaper than store bought, but ya have the pride in knowing ya built it. I create computer....me good caveman. Ya know what I mean verne? :> Besides I tried all the encoders and vso is by far the fastest and best. The only thing better is mainconcept encoder, but it doesnt produce dvd files. It only converts the mpeg to dvd compliant form so then you need another tool to make vob files. So thus its just easier to use vso divxtodvd!
Sounds like you may need a format adjustment on ye ole harddrive, (ie. clean up and re-do OS)might want to look into getting the most out of your ram too. My own personal opinion, lose SP2. Most proggys aren't built with Bill's extra's crap in mind. SP2 is like its own operating system within XP. I hate it.
i would have to agree with the comments provided.Mines a p4 3.2gig chip, on a gigabyte 915p board with 1024 DDR RAM. Have no probs encoding with vso and the time is roughly an hour. You really need to up your ram, and get a faster processor. My burn times are like 20 mins and every other copy is 10 mins
hi avi to dvd = TFM The FilmMachine + CCE = 1 hour 30mins mpeg to mpeg2 dvd compliant = Mainconcept encoder = 1 hour??? (i do 2 or 3 at same time - load main 3 times and hit go 3 times/3 files at once) AMD 4400 Dual Core A8N-SLI-Deluxe Dual Raid 2 GIG-DDR PC3200 Dual Chan NVIDIA 7800GT PCI-E HDTV DDR3 ENERMAX 600watt SLI LIAN-LI PC70 - Window 4x RAPTORS 10,000rpms Raid 0+1 2x MAXTORS Raid 1 (backup) 2x Burners 2x Roms
This here is the shiz H.264, http://www.mainconcept.com/index_flash.shtml. This little gem will convert 800 meg .avi's on my system in about 33 mins. Also give you the ability to convert all other kinds of video material. The "best", soon may very well be?
hi thats a difficult one really but here goes, well i notice a big dofference going from a 3 gig cpu to 4.4gig, but ram? i had 1 gig in my old pc and used to burn encode and surf the net and chat on mirc and msn at the same time! on 1 gig all was good i would say if you are spending money to get faster go for the CPU first. and keep at least 1 gig.
