i want to use the simplest software available and the lest amount of software. But i was wondering what is the quickest and easist way to take a full length home made dvd and just get like 5 mins of the dvd and turn it into a mpeg or avi video?
Assuming your dvd is not protected, the cheapest, as in 'free', would be to use DVD Shrink. http://www.mrbass.org/dvdshrink/ Run Shrink, click 'Open Disc'. Click 'Reauthor', drag the file, 'Title 1' from right pane to left pane. Click on the 'Start/End Frames' symbol (two arrows, pointing right/left)and choose the section of movie that you need. Click 'Backup' and opt to save to a 'Hard Disk Folder'. After it has been saved, exit Shrink, open the saved folder, then the 'Video_TS' sub-folder and rename the large .vob file to .mpg you now have an mpeg file you can view with Windows Media Player to work with.
