Going through the settings of Alcohol 120%, I see that there is a data type for "CD-COPS". I searched the web and found their page; it is a CD copy protection system. Their page (http://www.linkdata.com/index.htm#cdcops) states, "Generic hacks are not available on the internet." and "CD-R copy programs like CloneCD do NOT copy our CDs (it can copy our competitors' products)." Well, if Alcohol has a setting for that, does that mean it =can= copy it? The options under this type indicate "Data Position Measurement" is enabled and set to Normal. What is this setting? I also find it fishy that there is "no general hack", yet the vendor only has to "Then you apply protection to the main executable using the CD-Cops software" to add protection. It sounds like it's a simple wrapper to check things before jumping to the real entry point, or in any case if it automatically alters the EXE file, why can't it be easy to automatically undo it?
Actually, CD-Cops can be bypassed. Some decrypters are capable of stripping the protection from the main executable. When you read an advertisement so you really believe all that it says?
