When buying a brand new 360 how do you tell what type of dvd drive it has?

I wouldn't want to buy a brand new 360 and get stuck with a benq drive.

You mean you wouldn't want to be stuck with a Lite-On drive. BenQ are actually what you want for ease of modding.

As far as I know all new 360s have the Lite-On drive. So if you don't want that then purchase a used 360.

You can look through here to see the gist of when the lite-ons start appearing-

    That's funny.

Tell you what. If you get "stuck" with a BenQ, I'll trade you one of my brand new Lite-On drives for it. I'll even flash the damn thing FOR you.

    "stuck with a BenQ" LOL

Why not? Great drives and easy to mod.

Oh so currently Liteons can't be modded?

    What about Hitachi and Samsungs?

what I meant to say is, I wouldn't want to get stuck with a drive that's hard or impossible to mod. Does the Liteon fall into that category?

All drives can be modded at this point in time. If you were to buy a 360 right now, you would most likely get the newest firmware revision of the Lite-On, which, luckily for you, does not require any additional hardware.
