Using nero 6.6.0.18 and nerovision 3.1.0.21 and a Memorex dvd 16+/-dl4rwnd2 hardware(firmware updated). I have also bought nero 7 to see if that works. I have completely cleaned and reinstalled The original software. I don't use any other burning software. I also use winxp pro with service pack 2.

    Here's the problem:

The old version of nero that came as a package works fine(nero oem 6.3.1.29 and nerovision 2.1.2.21) , but I would like to use the newer versions because they have better options for me. After each time I update/upgrade, I cannot burn. There is no error log created because the nero program freezes(not responding) just after caching of files completes. This happens with Nero express and just before nero starts burning with Visionexpress. Nero Tech support won't respond.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks for anybody's input.

Try looking for the log anyways. It posts logs even on failed burns. It should be in program files>ahead>nero>nerohistory.txt . When ppl have problems with Nero 7, many don't have problems when going back to Nero 6. But you should stick with the latest version of either 6 or 7. I have been having good luck with Nero 7, but i have seen many posts where ppl were fine with 6 and cant burn with 7. Most of the time we get ppl running on 7, but some have to go back to vers 6 to be able to burn again. If you can find a log, post it. It will tell us much more about what is going on with your system.

    Thanks for the response!
Here is a log from a failed burn process when I was trying nero 7. I can't find a log file for nero 6. However if an infotool printout would help. I will paste it in. The error happens with both versions, so hopefully it is the same problem and can be fixed in at least one of the versions. Thanks again. The machine gun cat is a riot, by the way.

    Hi donatien1,
Any log will do :). This one will tell us something.
First you need to go back to the error log post, and edit out your serial number. It starts with 5C80, just click on the pencil symbol next to your post, and put xxxx or somthing over the numbers. Lowlifes will steal your Nero if you leave the numbers there.
Version 7 of nero is up to 7.0.1.4b and should be updated.
    http://www.nero.com/nero7/enu/Downloads.html
I think this is the firmware for your drive, and it looks like you need 1.A3
    http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?download_id=2107
DMA is OFF for that drive, and needs to be ON. How to fix it?? Here is my buddy alkohol's guide for DMA fixes:
    http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/260038
You are getting close to the edge of the disc where media coverage can be spotty or missing. Set your target size to Custom 4300 in the nero or shrink burn settings page.
It said your drive wasn't ready, and it didn't like the track information. Might just be the way this movie was ripped, but this could be old firmware and old nero competing to see who can mess with you the most.
I couldn't see what kind of media you were using, and Nero didn't know either. Use GOOD media like Verbatim, Sony, Fuji, Maxell, last 3 made in japan.
You were burning at 4x and that is good. Memory use was very good, remember to not multi-task while burning as you only have 512MB to work with (you did fine on this log). Fix the stuff listed, and try again using GOOD media as suggested. The DMA and out of date firmware/nero are probably the reasons for the failed burn, but dont forget GOOD media.. Hey, i think i said that already :)
