    Hi,

I've got the same problem as described in

    http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/307250

But that's not what I'm posting about just now.

I downloaded the Adaptec ASPI utility referred to. I definitely followed the instructions correctly, but instead of the drivers for XP being loaded up, I got the ones for NT.

(Yes, I restored & tried again. Same result.)

Any idea what's going on here ?

I'd like to figure this one out before I try to tackle the original problem.

You didn't do anything wrong, windows XP is built on or based on NT technology/framework.

Windows NT is a family of operating systems produced by Microsoft, the first version of which was released in July 1993. The architecture complemented versions of Windows that were based on MS-DOS until 2001. Windows XP and Windows Server 2003 are the latest versions of Windows NT, though they are not branded as such for marketing purposes.

If you ran this file "instASPI", then all the required drivers should of been installed and working properly, the check aspi utility should of verified this..

instASPI - Installs v4.60 (1021) of Adaptec ASPI layer on Win9x,
WinME, WinNT, Win2K and WinXP. Existing ASPI layers will
    be overwritten.

    Thanks for the posts.

Yes, I see on re-reading the documentation included with the Adaptec ASPI installation that the files loaded up for NT and XP have the same names. However, the installation requirements are different for the two operating systems which suggests that there is meant to be some difference in how the fix is applied.

If I run the Adaptec aspi check utility then it tells me that I'm running Windows XP and that I've got installed the 4.71.2 versions of ASPI32.DLL and WNASPI32.DLL but am missing ("not installed") WOWPOST.EXE and WINASPI.DLL (though that should be ok as they're for NT/W2k not XP, right?).

Now, whilst the above seems ok for XP, the confusing part is that the check's summary line says "WARNING: ASPI component(s) missing". Eh?

If I run the Nero Info Tool and look at the ASPI tab, it tells me that the Nero ASPI position is okay but that the System ASPI position is "corrupted" (and again it lists the two DLLs mentioned above).

Can anyone tell me what's going on here ?

The good news is that I can now burn DVDs again, so this is now more of an intriguing mystery than a life-or-death problem. Still got some issues though, which I've put in a separate thread:
