    As the new encryptions are more advanced and DVD Decrypter it has not been updated for a while, I would also get DVDFab Decrypter, another great free soft, which is kept up to date with the new encyptions. DVD Decrypter is still a great tool for older movies, as you can ripp movie only and save yourself some ripping time, and also it is a great burning tool.

    I'll mention a couple of things that may be over your head, but you can do the research. The PgcEdit method with the PSL2 plugin keeps Decrypter usable with any new protection schemes. However, it is easier to use a 1 click app when one is available. As mentioned, DVDFab Decrypter has been doing well lately. On the retail front AnyDVD is the best and it has FixVTS incorporated to correct compliance issues caused by the newer protection on the factory discs. Movies like "The Fog" and "The Legend of Zorro" won't record unless the compliance issues are taken care of as well as the decryption. So, you just got started when the factory guys are up to their worst tricks. Luckily, most of the DVDs aren't so hard to back up. Just realize there are some hard ones.

    You can get a 3 week trial of AnyDVD at http://www.slysoft.com/ . Do a quick read at the site. It's one of those apps you turn on and it does the work.

    VOBBlanker is one of the apps that is part of the PgcEdit method with
    DVD Decrypter. FixVTS is another handy one along the lines of VOBBlanker, but is more easy to use, though with more limited function. As mentioned, FixVTS is what AnyDVD is using to correct compliance problems.

    Yes, you are certainly right. I just think that VobBlanker is a little more "friendly user"(although the front screen looks quite complicated), as all you have to do is select input and output folders, click process, and wait! Using the PGCEdit method, some might get overwhelmed, especially being their first DVD Backup attempt, as it requires a few additional steps/clicks(download FixVts, the Plug-in, put them in the right folder..). I know is a very easy method, but we know that some people get a little apprehensive when is more than 1Click! I personaly use FixVts or VobBlanker, depending if I want to cut something out of the movie or not.

    I never used the Express version of DVDFab, but what is exactly the upside of using it over DVDFab Decrypter, the free version? I know the Express, the paid one ,allows you to ripp movie only, but you can do movie only in Recode or Shrink. And if you really want to buy a decrypter, why wouldn't you buy AnyDvd, which has great tech support and very frequent updates(maybe is even even cheaper?)With AnyDvd, you still get a 1Click combo. I guess it comes down to personal preferences....

    No upside. The free DVDFab Decrypter is the decryption software from the DVDExpress.

    I thought so! But since I never used it, couldn't be sure!
    Is the paid version updated more frequently( even though is the same engine)?

    As for the ease of FixVTS, how much easier can it be than dragging a file and clicking a start button.

    that is true, but i run into people all the time that have a hard time with running more than one app to get the job done. i had one last week that said dvdclone and any dvd was too complicated. i know neither one of u needs help. heres an example....http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/2/305330

    Fengtao (DVDIdle) is a bit slow getting their software updated. SlySoft is much faster with the AnyDVD. I think the free decrypter is updated about as fast as the retail at DVDidle. At least that was the deal the last I checked. I have the retail as well as the freebie. The freeware is actually set up to rip with less baggage than the retail.

    LOL If AnyDVD and CloneDVD 2 are complicated, then the person needs to hire the backups done for them. I don't know of anything easier, unless it's some of the old true 1 click transcoders. Those are obsolete now due to the decryption software.

    VobBlanker is best if one wants to edit. But for just processing files for compliance, the interface of FixVTS is easiest. They both have pros and cons. Both are good apps and they're freeware. A person should have both.

    I hear what you say. Some people have a hard time browsing the HDD to find the files that they just have ripped. But I think with good instructions, they will learn. I don't know if the paid version of DVDFab vs. the freebie would help the matter any way. And if they say Clone and AnyDvd don't work together, then they could mess up stuff using virtually any program. I think there was some 321 Studio software and the 1Click DVDCopy that was like a one button press copy, but for those people I would recommend to wait another month after release and go and buy another copy for $7 at Walmart!

    @brobear
    I agree. Depending on the project, one might be more suitable than other, but both are a must have for any DVD backer-upper enthusiast!

    LOL I don't think I'd apply for that job. LOL The work would be easy, but you have to wonder about the employer. ;)

    LOL!! Probably you would be forced to do all the backups on pretty coloured Memeorex media! That would be an atrocity hard to handle for me!
