Good morning A friend asked me where he could buy mp3 song to install on his daughter ZEN player. Well, I am at lost. I never did this myself. I know enough to stay away from Itune store. He is telling me " The others. NAPSTER, etc, you lose all the songs once you stop subscription. Any advice? I don't know about that. Does anybody know where somebody can buy music and play it on a MP3 player until the day you die without having to subscribe for eternity to some online music store (if it is the case)? P.S. The man is as straight as an arrow and will not settled for P2P. There goes my advice......
Try allofmp3.com. They even let you choose bitrate/quality level and other, higher-quality formats as well, all non-DRMed. I just wish they carried the old school house and latin freestyle stuff, but their selection is still on par with most other services. They have a free section that DOES have DRMed music, but it's obviously worthless due to the DRM. I'll pay NOT to have DRM!
From what I understand you need an IPOD to play music from Itune store. Here is what Apple have to say about it: Burn the music you buy to an unlimited number of CDs for your personal use, listen to it on an unlimited number of iPods, and play it on up to 5 authorized computers. Like I mentioned in my first post, my friend's daughter own a Zen player. I guess if you own an IPod until the day you die, Itune could be used but if you own, or plan to own, one of the thousands of other model of mp3 player out there, Itune is not for you. That all folks.
DRMed music, as well as lossy-compressed music is a bad move anyway; when you think about it, you will likely have to re-purchase the same songs many times over during your lifetime, as technology, formats, and quality will change. Furthermore, you're right, pierrrre; looking at it more simply, the folks who bought iPods are essentially prisoners to Apple now unless they are willing to lose their investment.
