Ok first of all, if I get a modded GC, can I just burn images onto the right dvds and they should work just like a modded ps2? And, can you rip GC games using a normal dvd burner or do I have to download the images? Also, where is a good place to get a gamecube modded? The only one I know of offhand is modchipstore.com and a premodded gamecube is 250$. If that's the cheapest I can get it then so be it I guess, but I'd like to hear of alternatives if there are any.
WE AT MEGA BACK-UPS CAN MOD YOUR SYSTEM ARE LET YOU KNOW WHERE TO GET ONE AND HOW TO PUT IT IN.GAME BACKING UP IS'NT THE SAMR AS COPYING PS-2 GAMES YOU HVAE TO STREAM THEM FROM THE GAMECUBE TO YOUR PC CHANGE THE FORMAT FROM GCM. TO ISO.AND BURN THE DVD'S YOU ALSO HAVE TO USE COBRA BIOS ON THE VIPER CHIP SO YOU WILL HAVE A WAY TO PLAY THEM.BUT WE CAN WALK YOU THREW ALL THAT WHEN YOU GET EVERYTHING GOING.WE ARE ON WWW.BACK-SOURCE.COM LET US KNOW AND WE WILL TRY TO HELP YOU THREW.
You can pickup a Gamecube premod from http://www.xbox-modchips.com/gamecube-premods.htm or if you are just looking for the chip checkout: http://www.xbox-modchips.com/viper-gc.htm
Hey Jimmy42, do you have to buy the case thing for the viper premod? Or should you? What's the case for? Do you really need it? Also, would you happen to know how to change the shipping options on the checkout page on linexs chips? I want the 32 dollar shipping option, but I can't seem to find where you change it to do that. On the checkout page, they only gave me the 15 dollar method. I want the 32 dollar shipping method.
By the case, I'm assuming you mean the modified case to accept full-sized DVDs? If so, I'd really recommend it. DVDs are waaay cheaper and easier to find than mini-DVDs, and it really blows to spend $15 on a 5-pack of high-quality mini-DVDs and then realize they're not the exact kind that will work on your 'Cube. With DVDs you could probably buy a bunch of different, WAY cheaper kinds and figure out exactly which ones work best. The DVDs don't offer any advantage in space, though - the GameCube's laser can't read any farther than the size of a mini-DVD, so all they are good for is price (and availability). But that is a big advantage, especially in the long run.
Tom54: This case allows you to FIT FULL DVD's so it will elminate your need for a mini DVD BURNER / MINI DVD MEDIA Also tom I do not think they offer the $32 shipping method for 2 day, you see all PREMODS being sent to the US are shipped via FEDEX 2 - 3 day from inside the us and it only costs $15.25
Sorry been busy and totally ignored this post for two weeks lol. Thanks for some answers. I tried that link you gave me jimmy, the thing says starting at 169.99 but on the actual buy page is instantly like 220 and 250 with the viper case lol, not any cheaper than I saw before. However, I could buy the GC for like 60 bucks off EB or something, and probably get it modded a lot cheaper. Anyone have any other places other than modchipstore.com that will just install the mod chip? Buying the GC at 60-65$~ and getting it installed there will cost me around 205 before S&H, which I assume will still be less than 250. *Edit* Nevermind, it doesn't include the viper case so the cheapest I can get it for is 250$, I guess that's how much I'll have to fork out for it then.
You can get it at http://www.modchipman.com with the full size mod.Not sure if it is cheaper, but modchipman is a pretty good site to buy from.
hey dude i don't see the point in getting the viper case and the viper chip. i bought the qoobsx chip which is a non-swap mod chip. it's the only chip i used but i personally think it's probably the best. everything i tried worked perfect including n64 games, snes, nes, gba etc. all u need to do is buy mini dvd-r which can be found in many websites. i don't have any yet so i'm using the regular dvd with the case off. (but i am gettin minis over the mail this week) you can burn the dvd-r or mini dvd-r on a regular dvd player using nero. that's what i do and it works fine. you can copy as many n64, snes, etc games as u want on a 1.4gb mini dvd-r with nothing special to do like the viper multi disk thing. the qoobsx reads it as easy as it reads a gc game. no need to buy the viper and the case and all that. get the qoobsx, mini dvd-r and ur set to go. trust me by the way, the qoobsx website is http://www.qoobchip.com and you can buy it at http://www.eurasia.nu/shop/default.php. that's the cheapest place i found and that's where i bought it. it cost me (including shipping) $44. and also don't get the qoobpro, there's no point.
Well I would install the chip myself but how hard is it? I know trying to install my ps2 modchip was going to be impossible by myself. And anyway about the case, I can't seem to find any cheap mini's. They're all around a buck a piece while dvds are only like 30 cents and I use them for my ps2 as well as burning data archives from my comp. Just seems like the whole viper mod is what I'm looking for. Any big difference between the qoob and viper mod chips?
Well the Qoob chips are better with DRE problems from what I am hearing.I am not really sure about the Viper chip or Qoob.I still don't currently have a chip yet.I think either way you go you will be better off, both of the chips are pretty cool in my opinion. The Viper chip is direct boot also with the latest bios files from Cobra, but I think the Qoob chip is better adjusted for DRE errors with discs.I honestly can't say which is better, gonna have to check them out to see which is better.I was planning on buying a new premodded GC with the Qoob chip, and then modding a Viper chip in my old GC.My old GC has a strong laser which is the only reason I am planning on putting a Viper chip in it.Anyways good luck to everyone with there mods, sounds good either way you go though. They both have additional update features,so they both are about equal to be honest.I can't really say the bios files are the same though, this is what makes the difference with the chips.
the qoobsx was sooooo easy to install. i never soldered in my life. the first time i did was when i installed the chip. with no help from anybody i got through the 6 wires easy. but hey man u kno what i think? if viper does have direct boot, than what i would do in ur case is go for the cheapest. i don't know how much the viper is but if it's cheaper than go for that one. seems like they're kinda the same
hey quick question, i was looking into modchipman.com and the GC premod w/ qoob chip. But i was wondering if they alter the laser for optimal use as well for you. (around 210 i think it was) Or is that something you would still have to do on your own? Also, with the SX you'd be saving 15 bucks, but would also not be getting the usb cord with it, so is it really worth NOT getting the pro? Thanks guys
I dont think any shops tweak the laser for you. You will have to do it on your own. Also you can do more with the qoob pro chip, it has a igger flash memory so you can store alot of goodies and also homebrew apps. We have installed plenty qoob pros and never once tweaked the laser and so far everyone has been happy.
