There is digital in my area. I don't have digital at all just the old service through the white lead. Do I have to have a digital package in order to use a box (starview for example?)

Digital box's wont work on analogue, you need a digital feed.

    You can,

just ring your provder and tell them your interested, they will tell you if you can get it or not, if you can, ask them if you will you need an aerial to get it, if its yes, then your on MMDS and you will need a T variant of the BOX or Eurovox, if not, then a normal box will do, that way you will be sure.

In Dublin there's still people that just have plain old analogue from N**. That white coaxial cable coming from your wall holds the analogue as well as digital channels.

Don't go ringing up asking for digital until you actually hook up a box and try it out first. My guess is, if you have digital in your are, then you already have a digital feed into your house.

But that doesnt apply to guys down the country as a lot of places are still anaalogue, digital and MMDS, so what he needs to ascertain is what he actually has before rushing off a spending money on box that may or may not work, that doesnt make any sense, whereas if he or she does the above, they will know exactly what box they need based on the CC's answers. Dont base what is used in Dublin, will apply to other places around the country

Try before you buy. It's not too hard to say "Hey come around to my house and see if it works". The vast majority of my customers have done it this way.

(Of course, I've let them know that what they're doing is in breach of their contract with their cable company... but do they listen)

thats all fine and dandy when some one can say "come around to my house", but if your in a part of the country where you dont have that luxury or someone who knows the differance, the best option is to make the call to the CC with the intention of getting it and this will also confirm what type of box you will need,
