Why will the starview not do? Is it not DVB-t compatible ?

Its DVB C compatible which will do for N** MMDS, which I presume you are on.

LOL, it would only add to the confusion that is MMDS if they were SG :) Those two other locations are a mis-mash of analogue Ch**us cable, N** cable and N** MMDS, take you pick.

I call it the "Russian Roulette" area :)

    guys

again I am left more confused than I was before I started. There are conflicting answers to my query above.

    1. I am headed fro Athenry, Galway.
(This is now UPC, was it originally ch@rus or n|l ?)

    2. I have MMDS (ariel) kit.

    3. What box do I buy ? (Can I please have a definitive answer, I dont wanna spend €150 on the wrong box)

    Many thanks in hope

Your definitive answer has been given, i.e N** MMDS is in your area and a standard DVB C box will do.

Forgive me for going on, I am very new.
SG8 say 1 thing and you say another. Also, N** MMDS are not in my area. UPC are in my area.

Is is the case that N** WERE in my area? and are you now saying that UPC ar ein my area using that technology that N** used to use ?

Secondly, if the technology in my area is DVB c, then again I refert o my first question. What box do I get ?

Sorry again for being a bit slow, hope you understand

No problem. UPC is N** & Ch**us. Your area is an ex N** MMDS area, so a standard Starview, Eurovox, etc will work. Once as you say you have the MMDS kit, i.e. aeriel, downconvertor, (which is on the aeriel) and power insertor, (little black box usually behind the TV).

So now, 1 final question for tonight (I promise)
I am looking at the starview 4. I can get it for around €144 on eb@y. Would you recommend this over the older starview 3 ? Which one wud you go for ?

    Many thnaks again

SV4 as its a single tuner PVR. You would have to add an external HDD for recording to the price. Anything from an 8GB USB stick, (you need a USB stick to update firmware either way, I say 8GB as you wont get much on less), to a max of 300GB external drive. But if you dont want to record then you can do without the HDD.

Firmware is still Beta and you can only record what you are watching. Timer facility isn't there yet either. But future non Beta firmware release should address some of these issues.

Much preferred to the SV3 if only for the added features.

If I say one thing and scouser says another, listen to Scouser!!

Will edit my posts to remove unavoidable error perpetrated by person indicated by use of the perpendicular pronoun.

    gotcha and thanks fellas.

So, I have now ordered a starview 4. What now? when it arrives will it work out of the box or do I need to flash its firmware?

I did find this link but am not sure if it is for the sv4, seems to be for the sv3 and earlier. Does this link have the resources I need for the sv4 ? or do I look elsewhere?

    thnaks all
