Which cable fo ftp..??

Hello all which cable can i use for ftp beacuse some people say use a straight through network cable and some say a crossover..?? i have a straight through but not connecting..?? don't know if its beacuse im doing something wrong or i need to buy the crossover type??

you need a crossover canle for it to work unless you are using a router
