I'm relatively new at this, so bear with me. I want to rip sections from a number of commercial dvds and then build a dvd-r with a menu for getting at that video. I'm a professor who does a unit on film where I show scenes from a bunch of movies. Instead of arriving in class with a stack of dvds and wasting time searching for what I want, I want to have one dvd that will have it all with a menu.

Happy to use guide(s), but I'm confused about where to start. I have on hand DVD Shrink. DVD Decrypter and TMPGenc DVD Author 3. Windows XP Pro.

Thanks for sending me in the right direction. Arnstein

You have all the tools, but some of them are old.
Decryptor will open some DVD, but not too many new once. Shrink can do cutting and export, but no menu.
DVD author will do DVD with menu, but for mpeg2 VOB edit, you should try Mpeg Video Wizard DVD, this one will import VOBs, do cuts and export DVD with menu. There is a trial version (fully functional) for you to test.
For ripping visit this site for some latest software.

RipIt4Me is still OK in 95% DVDs.
