which is better? DVD-R to MB or ATA133 adapter

    I currently have my DVD-R hooked to my Promise ATA133 PCI card,cause I'm using a Maxtor ATA 133 HD in the other slot,would it be better to connect my drives to the MB's primary or secondary slots being that neither of these are being used at this time? Or could I benifit from keeping My Lite-on DVD-rom reader separate by using one of these MB slots? what is the best ways to connect my drives,any advice would be helpful,thanks
