I am thinking of adding another dvd burner to my system to go with my LG gsa-4081B. Any advice would be appreciated, even other suggestions. LG GSA-4167B, Liteon SHW-1635, Pioneer DVR-110D, Samsung SH-W162C/BSBN or Samsung (TSH-552U/BEWN) Thanks EJM
I'm a Pioneer man so the 110D would be my choice. Only drive I might pick over it would be one of the Plextor models. Jerry
Recommend Plextor PX-716S SerialATA w/8MB cache. http://www.plextor.com/english/products/716SA.htm I tell ya, I just installed one in top-of-the-line system I built for a guy (everything had to be the best) and it's an amazing burner. A real quality piece, with laser-calibrating electronics etc. and of course the SATA interface, nice. Bloody fast too, and quiet. Nero loves it, booktypes no problem, also best Firmware in the industry. Burners are so dirt cheap these days, you gotta get a better burner like this (still very affordable :^) Regards
Thanks for the replies. While the prices have dropped a lot since i bought my original drive, the Plextor is three time the price of the other drives here. Do you think it is worth this kind of price differance? Tks & Rgds ejm
Plextors are somewhat higher priced but they shouldn't cost 3 times as much. Keep searching the web until you find the right price. The Pioneers should be less money and are still and excellent choice. Jerry
Many people, myself included, like the Benq 1640. The Qsuite that you download for it does all the booktyping automatically and has scan tools for quality checks.
Yes, Plextor is $115 bucks in Canada, compared to ~$60 bucks for others. But that special model is $150 bucks (SATA, 8MB) - it's deluxe! The Plextor comes only as a retail box set (usually I get DVD drives OEM, in just a bag). The rugged box with elaborate foam supports gotta cost a lot, but ensure your Plextor arrives home in mint condition. They include a Verbatim 16x and lots of software, plus a SATA cable and SATA power adapter. They include different colour faceplates, and even the little tool to open burners through the faceplate 'pinhole'. I'd never even seen one of those before :^) Hey c'mon, what else can you say you've got The Best for only $150 bucks? (Certainly not CPU's...) LoL L8R
NCIX has a sale on so the drives are under 50.00. I hate to be cheap or argumentive but I actually paid 165.00 total for my amd 3400 64 bit cpu. lol I bought it off a tech at Future Shop and while it was a good deal I had to get a motherboard (754) SO I will pay when I have to replace anything. (video card, motherboard and cpu will all have to change a the same time as they are not compatible with 939) rgds EJM
Whatever, friend :^) Nobody needs 2 cheap burners. I recommend 1 good burner. Whatever mobo socket you're using doesn't matter, I was just saying that AMD CPU's range in price from $70 bucks to $1225. So, $150 bucks is cheap for the very best burner money can buy, right? It's all relative... Anyway, you have room for only two devices (Masters) in a typical PC, then you're into SATA. Don't introduce Slave IDE devices unnecesarily if it can possibly be helped, Regards
