avg is the best of the bunch.. better detection and handling than ANY of the paid offerings (which are shoddy) read the security sites reports.. it was the ONLY one to deal with a few of the new troubles completely. None of the others could cope and many didn't detect anything wrong at all.

add a few common sense things to your strategy.. don't use IE.. use a different browser.. don't allow java by default while browsing.

have a few more anti-malware solutions and USE THEM REGULARLY.. malwarebytes seems pretty universal.. and there are some other run in the background on access protection tools. (spybot is a bloody pain tho.. so much so people turn it off after 30 minutes)

don't run any double ended things like limewire and it's friends.. There are people like me out here who LOVE to see limewire users browsing our share directorys and downloading our "all buttons clicked" applications..and finally

NEVER EVER use a cracked anti-malware paid app from anywhere.. because you will be installing something nasty.

The main trouble with a computer isn't malware.. or rather it isn't directly malware.. it's stupid users who click everything and don't ever think about what they are doing. A sensible browsing strategy (ff and avg have a link scanner which is pretty good I hear) and regular system maintenance are all that is needed to keep a system running safe and clean for the 6 months windoze lasts between complete reinstalls.

No such thing as best antivirus. Every antivirus has it's strengths and weakness.
AVG is too slow, so now I use avira which is quicker.

It's a given that some virus/malware will eventually breach your security.(everyone in this section of the forum had a antivirus software installed when they where compromised). You need to run your browser in a sandbox, that way any virus/malware that slips through your antivirus won't make it to the hard drive.

Use either sandboxie, which runs your browser in a sandbox (it will even let you open suspect files in a sandbox) or returnil which put's your entire c: drive in a sandbox. Returnil is easier to use but requires a reboot to get out of the virtual (sandbox) mode. Both are free software.

I've recently started using sandboxie after using returnil for 2 years without any virus attack. Sanboxie seems just as effective and more convenient since it only protects your browser, which is where your likely to get attacked. But either one will keep you safe.

    Thanks for the reply..
yes AVG was the best..it makes the computer virus free but also make it crap putting alot of load on it..
Now a days using Ca..but its not really good enough..it cant catch and del viruses any more..
Im actually looking for antivirus which is lighter in weight and much effective to catch new viruses too..
    Any suggesstions..

You'll probably want something along the lines of Eset NOD32 then. Lightweight with an exceptional reputation for catching all the stuff others can't.

Another vote for Avira so have a look at Avira (free) too, very light and better detection than some paid AVs. There is a popup with it that I think there is a registry fix for if it bothers you. The pro version is also excellent, light and cheap.

I run avast 4.8 and have had very minimal problems. I browse some "dangerous/shady sites" lol and it seems to cover me well.
