I'm lost. I would like to transfer my home movies onto my computer and I don't know which device to get. I would prefer an external usb or firewire device unless that quality of the external is really bad. I don't want to deal with sync problems or user unfriendliness. Can you please recommend some products or tell me your experiences (pros and cons).

    Canopus ADVC-110.
I know some will disagree, but if you have the money, get a Datavideo TBC-1000

Thanks I'll check out reviews. I also need to know good software for creating movies. Cnet ranks Power Direct 4 as #1.

By the my specs are: P4 3.0Ghz Windows XP usb and firewire ports.

If you want good, try VSO DivX to DVD, which will work nicely on your DV-AVI captures.
If you want the best, get Canopus Procoder to encode the files to mpeg-2, then author them with DVDLab Pro, or Scenearist.
