I just need a soundcard that will drive my 500-W amp & my cerwin vega 315s. What brand(s) & how many bytes do I need? How much will it cost? What's up with these refurbished/used cards on ebay...good or bad idea?

one of my all-time favorite audio cards is Turtle Beach's Santa Cruz card, but they're not made anymore so you'd have to find one used on ebay. Sound Blaster is pretty much king as far as audio cards. If you're not planning on using it for surround sound or anything, then you don't need the new really expensive ones. You could pickup a used SB Audigy (which I have a few of and have never had a problem with) for around or under $50 on ebay (they're not made anymore) and it should suit your needs fine if all you're doing is playing music off your computer into your stereo.
