how do mate. there is a few options you can do. the free programs available are dvd flik and ashampoo which are both available at http://www.freewarefiles.com/ i used dvd flik for a bit and i found it a little bit unreliable and slow. it takes approx 2hrs to convert an average 700mb avi file. bigger files tend to crash. ashampoo is a little complicated and limited. if you want to pay then convert x to dvd is good. i have this and its never failed yet and is a doddle to use. im not sure if a freeware version is available. if it is then it will convert your files with a small waterline at the bottom of the screen i think. check out freeware and see if they have a version available.. good luck..

Hiya, I'm a newby, I do not know what the RAT bit stands for, but this message seemed to be part of the answer I am looking for.
My question/problem, is I now live in Asia with other expats, and I have brought a large number of home made avi files, home movies, old programs, Sidney James etc, and I would like to make copies of these to pass onto the other expats.
These are not movies, but mainly old television programs, so are not pirates.
My problem is these were recorded in PAL, and their dvd players are NSTC, also I do not want to lend them the originals, so I am looking for a program, free or pay (not to expensive- pensioners) where I can transfer from Avi to a dvd9 disk using compression and making them nstc or open.
I have seen these types of disks in the local markets, but nobody seems to know how it is done, as they buy from suppliers.
    Can anybody guide/advise me please.

how do mate. there is a good "free" program available called "free videos to dvd" its available at http://www.freewarefiles.com/ it allows you to convert just about anything and if you tweak the settings you can choose which format pal/ntsc you require. it allows you to add multiple videos and put them on one dvd. it will compress them into a lp dvd. hope this helps.good luck.
