I think they're about the same...

I would sell both and buy a new card - seeing that you're using AGP a 6800 or 7600 is way better than those.

if i sold them both how much dya think il get for them?
might aswell upgrade, iv rescently upgraded my processor and memory, might as well go for the hat trick.

I'd say around 25 bucks for the ATi card, and around 15-20 for the nVidia just by looking at the prices for one on ebay.

thanks for your wisdom, i was origanally going to use one and sell the other, but i think il get a good graphics card and sell them both,

i might aswell get one more question in!

games for pc are getting very advanced so im gunna need a kick-ass graphics card, would i need a graphics card with 512mb of memory minimum?(im talking about memory built in on the card) with my 128mb's i ran games like doom3, far cry and the GTA's, but games like rainbow six vegas and GTA4 (when it eventually comes out on pc)i would imagine they will require phenominal processing power!
what graphics card would you recomend?

Well yeah, 512mb is the standard minimum you should have if you want to play the latest games like Crysis. However, the best cards that are out are for the newer PCI-e platfom (well not really new, but newer than AGP). They are better performers and cost less than AGP cards. However, you would need a PCI-e motherboard to run one of those cards.

What is your budget for a new card?

    around £100 ($200)
    my motherboards phisical info:
    3 pci
    1 agp
    1 amr

cant really afford to replace mother board if i dont have the nesscessary slots!

just so you've got an inclin to what i could get, heres my basic pc spec:

    CPU: Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 2.80GHz (hyperthread)
MEMORY: 1280mb DDR SD Ram (only 3 ram slots)
GRAPHICS CARD: hope you could fill this one in ;)

basically im after the best possible graphics card to go with my pc spec, (my memory can be upgraded, ram is fairly cheap)

Haha, thanks for the compliment, and unfortunately I had to save up my cash for quite some time before I could afford it.

Do you live in the US or UK - just so I know which stores to look for the product.

Well then I'm sure that that place will have a PCI-e 7600.

If they don't, two great sites to buy products from are

    http://www.scan.co.uk/

    http://www.aria.co.uk/

Another helper on this forum buys stuff from there all the time so I can assure you it's legit.

thanks for them links, i will certainly have a look,

iv been looking for graphics cards and something has come to my attention!

would the performance of a graphics card be reduced if the onboard memory type on the card is different to the memory type on the motherboard?

eg.....512mb DDR2 on card - 512mb DDR SDRAM on motherboard?
or will the graphics card not even be compatible at all?

oh and while im here....whats the difference between PCI and PCI-E,
are they the same or different interfaces?

you have your work cut out with me...lol, but im a fast learner so your wisdom WILL stick ;)

Ok, well for your first question about the memory - no, they can be different. My 3870s have GDDR4 and the ram I am using in my motherboard is DDR2 - DDR4 isn't even out yet and DDR3 is just starting to become popular (although I costs a lot of money).

The difference between PCI and PCI-e (PCI express) are that basically, PCI-e is only for video cards. Regular PCI slots (usualy white slots on the motherboard) can be used for many different types of cards - like wireless cards, sound cards etc. Although you can get a video card for a regular PCI slot, they are really outdated and people only use them for a backup or if they want duel monitor support.

PCI-e come in different speeds, 1x, 16x and 2.0. 2.0 is currently the newest and is double the bandwith of a 16x slot - although cards today dont even use all of the bandwith of a 16x slot.
