what does oem mean?its alot cheaper to buy[all hardware and software].everytime i think pc building isnt that hard,i run into another glich.1st time ever building a pc,there alot you have to understand before you buy everything.i have a hyper r 580 power supply thats sli ready and im thinking of getting the transformer case[sunbeam, manu,i think]good case?im between boards asus msi dfi or abit.ram cosair xms 2x512 pc3200xlpro ddr400 or that new ram 6000.which should i get?and theres no dought about getting xfx 7800gtx 490 overclocked, but maybe theres a better one,is there?everyday i make a shopping list at newegg, then i look on after dawn forum and everything im getting they on the forum say it sucks for one reason or another.i just dont want my first pc to be as beat as this emachine i have now.i have must have played warcraft 3 a million times already beat roc but never beat ft cause this piece of sh-t pc i have know:looses save files, crashes, looses the os,cant take it anymore,if you know what i mean.also have a crt hpm70 moniter and i dont want to buy a lcd,but what is the difference between lcd and crt?is it only the res or in it timing between pc and monitor?what is a good speed in lcd?the lower number[ex.25ms or 16ms]what does that mean?to many questions i guess, but you really need to know to build a pc properly right? thanks rugripper40@comcast.net........if u could help id apriciated alot
ok... the 7800 is a good video card..dont let people tell you it sucks an lcd well..its just 10x better..and the lower the MS, the better for gaming..i have a samsung 19" lcd @ 8 ms which is the close to best MS for gaming your powersupply is fine... ram...go with ddr 3200 with corsair 1 GB...if you plan to overclock than go with XMS series but if you dont then go for valueselect My case was a thermaltake Xaser IIII 2420a and i dont know other cases that are good and I love this one And i got ALL my stuff from newegg as well Oh and xp oem is without microsofts support like no help from them get the XP Home/Pro OEM, if you have the money then get Pro but i think you will be fine with Home OEM
OEM is Original Equipment Manufacturer. Basically it means that version of Windows is bundled with hardware. If you buy a computer from a reseller many times it is an OEM version. The main difference in OEM vs non-OEM is licensing. The OEM version cannot be transferred to another computer legally where an non-OEM version can. That means if you later buy another computer and want to transfer the license to it, you can't with an OEM version, it is tied to the original hardware.
hey thanks for answering jo,,,you helped me alot.also thanks xian kind of understand what your saying. if i build a pc and the motherboard sh-ts out or whatever, i cant replace that mb cause its tied to an oem licence but if i buy full retail xp pro then i wont have a problem changing or upgrading main parts of the pc[mb,hd].is that what you means?if im right i should buy the full and spend another $100 usd.so instead of $129 or so. you have to pay like $250 to have freedom huh?what a rip-off
It's mostly corporations that worry about the licensing. You should still be able to replace a broken part in the pc, OEM just means you can't legally install it on another PC. How many replaced or upgraded parts constitute another PC I don't know. There is nothing physically stopping you from installing it on another PC, though don't know if the product activation would go through if you have already activated it on a different PC. Mostly it means that if you buy a PC with an OEM license then you get a new PC later, you have to buy another copy of Windows, you can't transfer the license to the new PC. Most home users don't really worry that much about licensing but I don't know how it affects product activation though.
yea, thats what im worried about.i have this 2800+ emachine t2825 that i think i maxed it out.i put a gf 6800gt agp in it and all i have is problems.overheated,crashing,etc.i fix most of them by updating the bios, heatsink, and aftermarket cooler for the graphics card.still the 6800gt card stays at 52c and full load 63c.maybe the vga is to powerful for the motherboard.did u ever hear of that?the pc is fine if i play lower end games, but doom or farcry or fear forget about it, problems.so i was going to upgrade the motherboard and cpu.sort of thats a new pc,but is that considered oem still or do i have to buy another win?thats what i cant figure out.i called microsoft:they told me it was against the law ,but he couldnt tell me why, what the hell does that mean?what a bunch of d--ks over there at scumbagsoft.i guess im going to try or buy[lol]i never heard so much crap before in my life.thanks alot,im tring to do things right, but you have to do what you have to do right?
As long as the serial number for the windows installation isnt reported to microsuck thats its stolen or pirated you can activate on all computers. Just be careful espicially if you dont own the oem comp that came with...he he.:>
kool so if i keep the pc and rebuild it.i can use the number on the back of my old pc.i though somehow micro knew what was in you pc so you couldnt change anything. the way oz explains it :it only the serial number and your email huh?so i can pretty much change everything and use my hard 120gb in my new pc.will that work?or is all the settings for my old pc in that hard drive so they wont be compat.this is sort of a pain in the ass,but if i can save a little money that would be kool.thanks alot
No you have to wipe out the drive and reinstall windows. Just dont register it when you install windows. BTW...if you want...microsuck is offering a free trial download of windows xp pro 64 bit. Its good for 180 days. Beware......you will have a hard time finding drivers for older modems and printers than work with 64 bit. http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/64bit/evaluation/trial.mspx It ran good on my sytem, but I ended up making a dual boot sytem since I need the fax capabilities and couldnt find modem or printer drivers. But other than that its a helluva faster than 32 bit. Give it time.....they will come out with drivers for it all. Most major graphics card and mobos have 64 bit drivers...its just things like modem and printers that dont. But thats a route for you too Btw....I know bout the serial cause I used off my old comp for a new one without a prob.
like cable modems/what do mean faster in gaming?like far cry or doom?or the internet and windows itself?will x64 work with all games?this s--ts[x64]new to me.sorry about are the ?s.im going to have to buy win cause this emachine just comes with a recovery disk.windows and everything is run on a ghost program,3 disks.you cant use them on any pc right?i guess im beat.ill same money on the hardware anyway like the cd-r and the dvd-r,vga,etc.but im going to have to give more money to the flowing gates[lol]sucks ,but thanks for link, didnt know there was a free trial, thanks alot for your help
It all depends. See windows 64 bit has a emulator that allows 32 bit installers and proggys to run at 64 bit sppeed. Honestly other than driver issues.....I found only one game that wouldnt work for whatever reason.....family feud by yahoo games. I dont have far cry or anything else to try like you sugessted. but honnestly I didnt have no probs other than driver issues. Since its so new its hard to find them. So it probally would be a good route for you if you use cable internet and dont have a need for a printer. Althought recently I found out some printers like canon and dial up modems like gigabyte (i think that it is) have come up with 64 bit drivers. Hey if you dont have the money...download a free copy. Try it till you get the money to buy a reg copy of windows. Windows xp home with sp2 is bout a 100.00 on newegg. I would go with 64 bit if you dont have the money. Just make sure you get amd 64 not the intel 64 chip if you go that route. From what Im understanding intel chips are not designed to run both 32 and 64 bits at the same stime, but amd can. Plus amd rocks. I have a 3700+ over clocked to a 4400+ right now with no issues. But yes its a helluva faster. Nero will run on 64 bit. It took 10 secs to install it....well maybe a min. But you could see it was running twice as fast as on 32 bit. So yes its a helluva faster and worth it.
yea man, sounds kool!i have cable alrady so i should be cool.my printer has firewire plug in it,maybe that will work instead of the printer port.x64 is still plug and play right?maybe it can find firewire.thanks alot ,my wife just settled a workmans comp case[i dont know if you know what that is:get hurt at work ,sue, get a nice payday[lol].so im just going to buy x64.everyone is raving about the speed and ive got the need for speed if you know what i mean.i still like to save where ever i can,im not rich, just going to have alittle more then usaul.thanks oz peace out
Yup good luck. YEs this trial version is plug and play and is petty much just like reg windows ecept is 64 bit. Yes I know comp. Been on it since june for a broken thumb. Times are good. Peace out
